I bought the previous version last spring and finally just put it into real action on a ski trip to Smugglers Notch, VT. We encountered rain, snow, -15 deg wind chills, and I even took a couple spills on the icy trails and the jacket held up like a champ. Shed the snow and rain like no shell I've worn before, bitter cold wind was blocked without issue. Hood fits over a helmet, front zips up high to cover your face if you want. As for fit, I'm 5'8", 160 lb and I have a M. Fit on me is great, not too tight, not too loose (remember trying on the Sabre in a store and thought it felt huge) but room enough for layers underneath. Jacket long enough for some coverage but not so long as to be annoying. Goggle pocket inside is nice, outside pockets deep and high enough to go over a backpack hip/waist belt. Sleeves are a bit long (standard for me) but cinch up nicely with velcro inside or outside gloves. Overall great purchase, wish I bought two in the same color before discontinued.
"Expensive / probably won't need another shell for a decade"
My last review for this got lost in the inter webs, and it was WAY more eloquent - so here's an abstract / 6' 240lbs. XL fits perfectly (can fit a down layer underneath) although it is "athletically" cut. One qualm : sleeves are cut a lil long. Owned for over a year, still looks brand new. Used in all four seasons easily. Has stood up to back packing in the dead of summer (I sweat a lot) , chopping and carrying LOTS of wood (not a scratch in sight) - and if I still were a skier, it would be the greatest jacket EVER / it actually covers your ass!
Just received this today (blue/purple color). Looks great and is not too baggy like most jackets now, and is not especially long, which I like (contra the Patagonia POW Slayer jacket I received as well but will return). I am 5 foot 9 inches, 170 lbs, athletic build, and the small fits perfectly. Only very minor complaints would be: lack of pockets (only 3 on outside including arm pocket), inside of jacket around mouth area is not fleeced at all, and hood is slightly bigger than normal (good for helmets, but will need tightening for those who don't wear them).
"High quality jacket for those with cash money."
I wear this jacket on a daily basis in Seattle... Yeah I know, not its intended use. The materials used are great, super durable, water proof, breathable GoreTex hardshell. The hardshell is pretty stiff and makes a bit of a *krinkle* noise, but it keeps me nice and dry. The hood is nice and big for a helmet, though I use it with full sized headphones. Also big enough to blot out the world when I want to nap in my car. The powder skirt could be a bit more adjustable, its just elastic with a set of button snaps. Materials, Fit and Ergonomics is what had me choose this over competitors jackets.
This jacket is great fit/materials wise but the features are not as well thought out as other new snowsport jackets (crossbow, sabre sv, vertical sv). The problem I have is that the powder skirt is only adjustable via stretch panel (no elastic cord like the aforementioned jackets) and the mesh pocket is too small to store an extra set of goggles. (I used it to store extra lenses or glove liners.)I wish they would've refined it a little more with elastic pulls for midsection/powder skirt adjustment and a larger mesh pocket, then it'd be perfect.
