ARC'TERYX ATHLETIC FIT: The Arc'teryx Athletic Fit garments are considered their "standard" fit and feature complex patterns that utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate any excess bulk. Athletic fit styles are trimmer than Arc'teryx relaxed fit styles, but still offer room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer, and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer. Put simply, their Athletic Fit should fit true to size, but be sure to check out the size guide to learn how to calculate your body measurements before selecting a size.

I usually grab this when the weather is looking a little chilly (below 20s; I wear it over a thermal layer) or when it looks like it's going to rain or snow out. Paired with a great base and thermal layer, the versatility of this jacket amazing. I feel comfortable from about 0 degrees F to the 50s (once again, with a good base and thermal layer). I haven't been in anything below 0, so I can't say anything about that; I'd suspect that you'd begin to feel quite chilly if you're just sitting or standing around, but it'd still be good if you're doing something active. The jacket seems durable and has performed quite well thus far. If there seem to be any major flaws in construction down the road, I'll come back to update this.
"the perfect jacket for fall/pre-winter season w/ little drizzle in the city"
This soft shell jacket is the perfect jacket for fall and pre-winter season in California. I really like Arcteryx soft shell jackets because they are so comfortable to wear and they last very long. Since the temperature is quite low in the early morning and late evening in Cali, so I have this jacket with me when chili and it protects me from cold. The design is also suitable for casual wear.
I have had this jacket for a year now and i am very happy with it. It is what i always grab when i don't know what the weather is going to do. It sheds light rain and mist great, does great in the snow, holds your body heat in when your are working out and stretches nicely for climbing or biking. The jacket blocks wind until it gusts above around 30mph so its not super windproof but still a lot better than a fleece.
I have last year's model of the Gamma MX, but it's the same other than the color selection, which is a bit drab for 2013 in my opinion. 2012's models were much more vibrant, but maybe that is not your thing. Colors aside, the Gamma MX is my go to jacket. It's lightweight and since the articulation in the joints is so fantastic, it really doesn't feel like you're wearing anything. You have to wear one to believe it. I know that Arcteryx is very expensive, but it is money well spent. These jackets are bomb proof and will last for years. The fit is perfect. I'm 5"6' and got a small like I do in all Arcteryx gear, and it fits just right. The sleeve length is perfect, which is hard to find sometimes for me as is the overall length. I cannot recommend this jacket enough if you can afford it. If you can't right now, save up and buy it on Moosejaw's Cybermonday sale next year where you'll get 5x rewards points, which could give you over 20000 points, so it's kind of like 2 for one.
