"My Atcteryx Beta SL Jacket has been in use for two seasons now and I'm loving the way it works. I've been slowly dropping a few pounds for the last couple years, and this year it was time for a jacket upgrade. I purchased the Beta SL for it's the lightweight and watertight Gore-Tex Paclite fabric, which has been put to the test in quite a few Michigan rainstorms, and kept me dry every time. The only warning I can give is that it IS a little short of length, so your bottom half (bum on down) is definitely exposed. Pair it with some ultralight waterproof/breathable pants and you're laughing. You could also substitute the Beta AR Jacket, if you prefer a little more length and extra features at the expense of the extra weight."

The Men's Beta SL Jacket by Arcteryx, at hip length is an excellent all-around Gore-Tex Paclite jacket that is ideal for hikers, bikers, or those who require lightweight and packable storm protection without all of our Ascent specific features. With a trim fitting Drop Hood and lowered hand-warmer pockets, this piece is a great choice if climbing helmets and harnesses aren't in the backpack.

"My favorite jacket" 04/04/13

I really like this jacket. I've had it for about 2 years now and it still holds up great in the rain. I wish you could stuff the jacket into a pocket like the North Face jackets, which makes a great pillow when backpacking. Besides that, I am really happy with this jacket.

"Good lightweight shell, but make sure it is what you need." 02/24/13

The Beta SL is a nice lightweight bear bones rain shell. Great hood design lets you zip up fully, yet still be able to drop the hood easily. Nice cuff design. Fits slim, so not your best bet in a winter layering system. No pit zips, so it can get a little clammy and does not breathe as well as others might. This is my rain jacket that goes with me in the backpack for extended trips in the summer and shoulder seasons. It keeps you dry, and is lightweight.

"Very light and packable, but large torso" 12/06/12

As a member of Gore MountainTechs, I have the opportunity to field test GORE-TEX gear in some of the harshest conditions. This jacket is my go to jacket for backpacking. Very lightweight and packabe, yet still very waterproof. Zippers are not as hefty as I'd like, but help shave ounces so I guess it's worth it. No pit zips, which is a huge downfall for me. The length is good for sleeves and torso, but it's pretty bulky in the torso (I'm 6', 185 lbs, and have this jacket in large.) As a shell, just a bit large in the torso for my liking. Overall, would still highly recommend this jacket, but you may want to consider stepping one size down if you're slim and don't need the length.

"Perfect lightweight shell" 09/17/12

This is my go to jacket for summer when I need to be prepared for thunderstorms or cool temperatures. It compliments my Beta AR which I use in the fall, winter and spring.The fabric is so light it feels like you aren't wearing a hardshell. The pockets are well placed and keep the weight light.I am 5'11" and 180lbs and a large fits well.As a disclaimer, I am affiliated with Gore for product testing of Gore-tex products for the purpose of product review and recommendation. I do receive items from Gore for these purposes.

"Go-To Adventure Rain Jacket" 09/13/12

Full disclosure, I test and review products as a GORE-TEX MountainTech. This is my favorite lightweight rain shell for extended trips in the backcountry and for fast and light climbs in the mountains. The beauty of this jacket is that it weighs next to nothing and compacts so small, I can forget about it in the bottom of my pack (until the rain starts falling!) The long hem and cinch cord on bottom fit well with my harness and help keep things dry. The sleeves and shoulders offer good range of movement. The hood is pretty good, but is a little small for my helmet (BD Half Dome).

"Must-Have 3-Season Rain Jacket!" 07/09/12

I am a Gore MountainTech and I test products for W.L. Gore. I have tested numerous styles and brands and can say that this is definitely my go-to jacket from spring to fall. Jacket is extremely light-weight and comfortable. It almost feels as though I am not wearing a jacket at all. Although it was clearly designed for expeditions where minimizing weight and bulk are essential, this jacket gets a lot of casual use from me as well. Construction is high quality; hood is appropriately sized and has a simple and effective rear cord for easy adjustment. I am pleased with the breathability of the Gore-Tex PacLite fabric. No pit zips necessary. I am 6'5" tall and 195 pounds and the XL fits great.

"Awesome Jacket: Waterproof, Breathable, Wind Resistant, True to Size and Practical!!!" 05/22/12

I'm by no means an outdoor adventurer (I just go to the gym and lift heavy things); I live in NYC, work in an office and perspire heavily. Yesterday was the real test of my 'Arcteryx Beta Jacket', it was cats and dogs here in Midtown East with mild winds and temp around 50s to low 60s. I don't like carrying umbrellas and my previous rain proof jackets always suffocated my body and cause very sweaty armpits, upper back and shoulders (even in low temp). The Arcteryx Beta is different. During my whole walk to work I felt completely dry with normal body temperature and best of all my body was able to breath. When I got to work there was NOT A DROP of liquid on my shirt from either RAIN or SWEAT!

"Solid lighweight shell for wet conditions" 05/15/12

Another solid product from Arcteryx. I used this as a everyday raincoat and it keeps me dry even in the heaviest Texas thunderstorm. Extremely lightweight and the waterproof zippers keeps things in your pockets dry.

"BAD ASS JACKET on a budget" 04/20/12

This jacket is awesome, protects you from the rain without feeling like you are wearing a tarp. Its highly breathable and movable. Slim fit but with 1 size up you can pit a fleece under it and wear it layered for a winter coat. This is my second one.

"More technical than casual..." 04/19/12

Pros:SUPER waterproof. Standing out in a hard rain the water beaded and poured right off.Nice fit. (5'10" 150 size small)Many adjustments to tighten it down.Cons:Noisy fabric. All movements involve a fair amount of rustling noise. I bought this mainly for wearing around town but often find myself reaching for a less waterproof soft-shell jacket instead. Arcteryx recommends this as a casual/urban jacket (in addition to more technical use) but I think it's a little too technical for casual use. Still love it though.Neutral:Very thin shell. Does not provide much warmth. Not necessarily a problem, but something to be aware of.
