If, for some reason, society collapses and we enter a state of pure chaos, I will instantly run into our warehouse and grab an Arc'teryx Men's Beta AR Jacket (and then a couple of our heftiest ice axes). I would want the no-nonsense protection with bombproof durability. The GORE-TEX Pro will block wind, rain, snow and whatever else falls from the sky in our broken world. It is light and packable with an athletic fit that will accommodate layers for the coldest winters (of our discontent). The hand pockets (pack compatible) and pit-zips allow for ample ventilation so I could stay on the move even with drastically changing temperatures and conditions. This situation is purely hypothetical and will probably/hopefully never happen, but if the Beta AR is up for that challenge, it can certainly handle the challenges of our current world.

ARC'TERYX ATHLETIC FIT: The Arc'teryx Athletic Fit garments are considered their "standard" fit and feature complex patterns that utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion and eliminate any excess bulk. Athletic fit styles are trimmer than Arc'teryx relaxed fit styles, but still offer room for a base layer, a light fleece mid-layer, and a synthetic or down filled mid-layer. Put simply, their Athletic Fit should fit true to size, but be sure to check out the size guide to learn how to calculate your body measurements before selecting a size.

This jacket epitomizes a rain jacket. It is 100% waterproof and it will hold up to anything from a sprinkle to a downpour all the same. I love how the hood is adjustable, so you can have it cover your head a ton if you really want or you can adjust it back so it still covers your head, but you can see around you better. The build quality is awesome, so this jacket should last you forever... literally.
This jacket will outperform your expectations. It's bone dry during downpours and absolutely comfortable. This is an expensive piece of gear, that's true, however this jacket will be your go to jacket for life. The fit is great, it looks nice with your outdoor gear or with a pair of jeans. If you need a jacket for life get an Arc'teryx.
"just what I come to expect from arcteryx"
Fit and finish are great just as I have come to expect from arcteryx, runs true to size. I ordered the xl in the atom ar and ordered the same in the beta, plenty of room for layers. Unfortunately I have returned the product in exchange for the keibo, I decided I wanted a little more insulation and the keibo seemed to fit the bill! I highly recommend both arcteryx and moose jaw!!! Thanks
I have had this jacket for 2 months. Have used it in temps ranging between 50°f and -17°f. Layering is key. I primarily use this jacket for extreme cycle commuting and walking the dog in the woods at night whilst drinking tall boys of crap beer in sub zero temps. Dog likes it. I couldn't be happier with fit, finish, quality, temperature control (venting or lack there of depending on weather and activity) and finally pocket locations. Sleeve length is great. Matches length of jacket perfect. Hood works great w/helmet, but can be cinched to use w/out helmet. Oh, jacket zips past your chin, which is really nice! Rode to work today in -5°f temps w/24mph head wind for 5 miles on a fat bike in a few inches of snow. I was irritable due to wind drag, yet comfortable due to jacket. Get yourself one!
I love this jacket. Nooo, I LOVE this jacket. I can wear it to the movies, all day during a blizzard or for hours running through a wipeout downpour and it feels as if I am still relaxing in my my own living room. The fact that it is really good looking to boot is just an extra - you know, you'd love Angelina Jolie even if she weren't a babe - but, hey, she IS a babe and that elevates her to the status of being a legend - just like this jacket.
This jacket performs as expected for an Arcteryx Jacket. It fits true to size all while allowing you to layer underneath it. The pit zips are a great features when your active outdoor adventures cause an increase in sweat! I highly recommend Arcteryx as a brand and the Beta AR Jacket as an essential piece of outdoor clothing. I use mine for hiking.
Over the years I have not been willing to spend the money on a good hardshell, instead I would buy a decently priced hardshell and they would start to leak in a couple of years or they were too heavy for the backpacking trip. This jacket is not like that of course it is gortex so it is loud to hike in and it is a shell so you need layering underneath. (I layer a fleece and an arc'teryx atom underneath and have yet to be cold in Michigan) This jacket is cut shorter than most hardshells that I have encountered (I I don't see this as a problem but it is up to you) Overall this is the best Hardshell I have found.
