"GET IT!!!"

Fortunately I haven't had to use this yet (Except for training and simulations), but it is a must for any first aid kit. Especially if you are going to be in the backcountry, or climbing/kayaking/any other dangerous activity. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but if you do, you'll be glad you have it.

"Essential to any first aid kit"
07/27/09
If you are doing any backcountry work, this item is a must in your first aid kit. It's compact, durable, lightweight and reusable. Its pliability makes it easy to fit around just about any limb injuries. Trust me, you will be thanked for fitting on a Sam Splint instead of lashing on a hiking pole section or a stick. While on a backcountry canoe trip in the Tamagami region of Ontario, Canada a member of our team tore up their ankle and broke a bone when the slipped during a rocky portage. We were able to easily bend one of these to perfectly fit his limb and it was enough to keep the foot immobilized, and our team member comfortable, during the 2 day paddle to the nearest outpost.

"Worth carrying with you."

This was not needed on my solo canoe trip thankfully, but there were several close calls with moss covered rocks and holes between them. This splint would have worked out perfectly, so long as I could make it out alive to tell people.

"Take one with! SAR said so"

Anyone going into the back country should carry a SAM splint. They have multiple uses and should be part of your basic first aid kit...this from a trained wilderness responder.

Excellent SAM Splint. My doctor girlfriend says they are good to have in your emergency kit.
