  • Opening and sorting mail
  • Tracking and uploading vendor freight
  • Tracking and collecting on returns (RAs)

  • Ping pong, a hammock lounge, dart shooting, a beer fridge and decent music. The list could go on, but I like to be all mysterious and stuff.
  • Great 401 (k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it's boring.

Buyer, Footwear & Accessories

We're looking for an experienced retail Buyer to add to our merchandising team based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. Our buyers buy stuff. They also do fancier types of things like managing assigned product categories and executing Moosejaw's merchandising vision of both the online and brick-and-mortar businesses. Totally fancy. I think what I'm trying to get at is that our buyers are essential to what we do here. Otherwise we'd be selling air. And the hope for peace on earth. Kumbaya.

Categories that our Footwear and Accessories Buyer will oversee include all footwear and socks for men, women, and kids plus seasonal soft-lines accessories, such as gloves, hats, head and face protection, and other important gear you can wear. Think a lot of brands and a lot of SKUs. And additional responsibilities will be added TBD style because we're always growing, exploring and trying new things. We're really looking for a strong merchant, preferably with multi-channel retail experience, who loves Moosejaw and is familiar with the products we sell.

Planning experience and footwear category expertise is strongly desired, as well as a knack for finding the coolest shiz. We want someone who has a track record for staying ahead of technology and trends. I really thought the phrase was "tract record" until the world wide web told me otherwise. Candidates must be willing to travel to Moosejaw shops, industry shows and vendor line showings. This position reports to one of our Senior Buyers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Executing Moosejaw's merchandising vision of both the online and brick-and-mortar channels, and leading the growth of our outdoor gear business
  • Managing assigned product categories through strategic assortment planning by channel, beginning with a laser focus on Moosejaw's customer and the marketplace. Lasers can be used in many ways: laser tag, laser hair removal. But laser focus is pretty decent too.
  • Implementing leading-edge footwear assortments with the greatest focus on hike and climb, run/train, casual lifestyle, sandals, and winter footwear. Ensuring Moosejaw is well ahead of the market and trends, and perpetually developing new brands. We want to be like the coolest girl in high school during the 80's who first wore a banana clip.
  • Growing our seasonal soft-lines accessory business by enhancing the productivity and ROI on existing programs as well as finding new brands
  • Driving sales and margin growth in assigned product categories through seasonal and annual strategies
  • Managing receipt flow planning
  • Overseeing all financial aspects of the footwear & accessories business, including responsibility for leading and controlling the inventory and open to buy, sharing responsibility for forecasting sales, inventory and margins, managing pricing strategy, and ensuring appropriate levels of liquidity in the business at all times. Ensuring we are in position to meet or exceed both sales growth and profit margin objectives consistently in all channels of business.
  • Developing both full-price and off-price business strategies
  • Managing category, brand and cross-channel strategy. Executing big ideas.
  • Developing and overseeing seasonal conversions, as well as entry and exit strategies
  • Collaborating with and supporting the marketing team to execute Moosejaw's merchandising vision
  • Seasonally identifying the best brands, products, and business opportunities and building the plans/execution strategies necessary to bring them to market successfully
  • Building strong and mutually-productive partnerships with suppliers
  • Managing an assistant buyer to get the most and best, setting and communicating guiding goals, measuring accomplishments, diagnosing strengths, weaknesses and potential, delegating and developing
  • Collaborating with the merchandise planning team on allocation and replenishment
  • Doing really cool stuff that's worth telling your best friend, neighbor, ex-g/b friend and creepy uncle about

Things we'd like you to bring to the table:

  • 4 - 6 years of progressive work experience as a retail buyer/assistant buyer. Planning experience and multi-channel or internet retail experience is also required.
  • Knowledge of outdoor products, brands and industry is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in purchasing, merchandising, supply chain, finance or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, provide innovative solutions and develop business opportunities within the boundaries of prudent risk
  • Must possess strong retail financial and planning skills, as well as analytical, problem solving, strategic thinking and project management skills. Proven report generating abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Ability to cultivate strong vendor relationships is required
  • Must be a natural-born leader, which is way better than a natural-born killer. I made that whole natural-born thing up. I thought it lent itself well to my Woody Harrelson obsession.
  • Must be extremely self-motivated and able to exhibit out-of-the-box thinking to formulate new and creative ways of doing things, challenge assumptions, be comfortable with ambiguity, and have a future-oriented focus
  • Must have strong project management skills with the ability to foster a sense of urgency, be aggressive in pushing for deadlines and communicating issues, identify and overcome obstacles, as well as proactive in providing status updates on projects
  • Must exhibit a high degree of flexibility, maintain a solution-driven focus in challenging situations, adapt quickly to changing business requirements and be able to thrive amidst chaos
  • Must have a strong affinity for the Moosejaw brand, Love the Madness and embrace the Moosejaw culture. You knew this one was coming.

Things we'll bring to the table:

  • Ping pong, a hammock lounge, dart shooting, a beer fridge and decent music. The list could go on, but I like to be all mysterious and stuff.
  • Cubicle-free work environment. However, you are encouraged to build a fort around you using couch cushions, pillows and blankets from your mom's house.
  • Coworkers who will laugh at your jokes. Even if they're just being polite.
  • Amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear and Moosejaw products
  • Great PTO, 401(k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it's boring.

How to Apply:
Email your resume and salary requirement to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please use job code BUYER in the subject line of your email so we know what you're applying for. I bet you wish I came up with a better job code like BTW, or BYOB. But I didn't.

Marketing Analytics Specialist

We're seeking a Marketing Analytics Specialist to add to our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. Understanding our customers and how they interact with our brand using data is what this role is all about. And we couldn't be more excited about it. On a day-to-day basis, the Marketing Analytics Specialist will be responsible for pulling, refining, organizing, harvesting and presenting data. I used as many verbs in one sentence as humanly possible. To sum it up, we're not just looking for someone to pull reports. We're looking for someone generally awesome, curious, analytical and driven to translate large amounts of data into actionable insights. Somebody who isn't afraid to follow the data wherever it leads them and be the advocate for action and change based on what the data is telling us. Plus it's a must to have a strong affinity for the Moosejaw brand, Love the Madness and embrace the Moosejaw culture. And if you like the outdoors, that's a plus plus. Like a double digit plus thingamajig.

  • Analyzing customer purchase behavior, including repeat and cluster analysis, and driving data and insight-rich changes
  • Developing strategies for engaging and converting customer segments at various points in their lifecycle
  • Creating segmentation and personalization strategies for the email program and catalogs
  • Doing really cool stuff that's worth telling your best friend, neighbor, ex-g/b friend and creepy uncle about

  • Proficiency with Excel is another must. Experience with SQL is a plus.
  • Experience with tag management is another plus (Google Tag Manager)
  • Ridiculously amazing analytical and statistical skills. So repetitive. Sorry.
  • General curiosity for complex problem solving. I believe the word "general" implies genius. Or not.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. If you like to color code your closet, alphabetize your CDs and always know where your keys are, people might think you're strange, but we think you're well structured.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team based, collaborative environment. A witty sense of humor also helps. And the ability to shoot Nerf darts at no more than a 30-degree trajectory.

Things we'll bring to the table:

  • Great 401 (k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it's boring.
  • Casual dress code. Very casual. Think jeans, t-shirts and flip flops.
  • Coworkers who will laugh at your jokes. Even if they're just being polite.
  • Cubicle-free work environment. However, you are encouraged to build a fort around yourself using couch cushions, pillows and blankets from your mom's house.

  • Amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear and Moosejaw products
  • Great PTO, 401(k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it's boring.
  • This bullet point was just added for visual effect. A wise man once said that six bullet points are better than five. And six is my lucky number.

How to Apply:
Email your resume and salary requirement to jobs@moosejaw.com. Although we'd like to think we're psychic, we're really not. Photography & Production Coordinator

We're seeking a Photography and Production Coordinator to add to our marketing department based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. Essentially the job entails production and photography. And other stuff. That's how we got the job title. We were trying to think of something more creative. Like Urban Planner of Production in a Photography Appreciative Environment. Or I Didn't Know Soap Operas Were a Real Thing Until I Met Susan Lucci on a Cruise Ship. Or Someone Who Takes Photos of People Whipping Bologna Off the Roof. But my mean boss preferred Photography and Production Coordinator. So much for creative genius.

The Photography and Production Coordinator is responsible for supporting the marketing team in the production of catalogs, photo shoots and web content, as well as creating and preparing photographic images to display in a variety of published mediums produced by Moosejaw. Candidates must have experience with digital photography, product photography, studio lighting, image sizing, resolution and formatting. Plus it's a must to have a strong affinity for the Moosejaw brand, Love the Madness and embrace the Moosejaw culture.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Producing quality product photographs as needed for the web content team
  • Working with the web content team to format and upload current product imagery from vendors and tweak product images
  • Assisting with a variety of tasks from leading and planning to hauling gear
  • Coordinating and planning all photo shoots (permits, locations, assignments on job)
  • Acting as a project manager for photo projects
  • Organizing product lists and photography to support Moosejaw catalogs
  • Utilizing gear and product expertise in several marketing customer-facing projects, including catalog development

  • Maintaining several customer-facing email accounts (i.e. Pictureman, Jack, etc)
  • Maintaining our Flickr account

  • Meeting regularly with the Senior Marketing Manager and keeping the Senior Marketing Manager informed on all necessary matters
  • Doing really cool stuff that's worth telling your best friend, neighbor, ex-g/b friend and creepy uncle about

  • Knowledge of video and other forms of digital media is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of outdoor apparel or equipment is preferred, but not required

  • Must have strong project management skills and be highly organized and detail oriented. Plus have a strong work ethic with high personal initiative. The personal initiative thing wasn't my idea but I like it.
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of disciplines and personalities. Especially the super amazing personalities like mine.
  • Ability to strike the appropriate balance between working independently and keeping the supervisor informed
  • Ability to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Think fast-paced, multiple-priority environment. If you can juggle, while riding a unicycle, while dressed like a clown, you should be in a circus. But this might also be a good job for you.

Things we'll bring to the table:

  • Great 401 (k) plan and benefits package. Sorry I had to write that even though it's boring.
  • Casual dress code. Very casual. Like jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. I used the word sneakers instead of gym shoes because I like it better. Just in case you were wondering.

  • Cubicle-free work environment. However, you are encouraged to build a fort around you using couch cushions, pillows and blankets from your mom's house.

Sales Associates, All Shop Locations

We're seeking sales associates for all shop locations. This job involves sales, customer service and humans. Or Homo Sapiens and stuff if you prefer to be technical. The technical part of that sentence was the word "stuff."

Moosejaw sales associates have an enthusiastic, fun and positive attitude while assisting customers with sales and product information. A good sense of humor, creative mindset and passion for customer service are needed. Like an I-love-you-so-much-I-want-to-have-a-million-babies-with-you passion for customer service. Plus outdoor gear knowledge is preferred.

How to Apply:
Apply in person at the shop of your choice or email your application to jobs@moosejaw.com. Not the hyphen thing.

Moosejaw Models Wanted

We're looking for a few female models, age 18-25, to pose gracefully in the coolest products we carry. Models will be used for in-house photo shoots at our headquarters located in Madison Heights, Michigan. • Modeling experience is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. No ifs, ands or buts.
  • Michigan applicants only. Although we love the rest of the country, we're quite partial to Michigan. Oh yeah, and Moosejaw will not be paying for expenses to travel to our headquarters. So it'd probably save you a lot of money in gas if you live in state.

How to Apply:
Email your resume or work history, along with no more than 3 pictures, to models@moosejaw.com. We're very serious about the 3-picture limit, so if you send 4 we'll think you're not great about following directions. Sorry to be so mean.
