I have a Jeep Cherokee with an old factory rack, but it also has rain gutters. I couldn't decide if I wanted to go with the rain-gutter style tower, or the ones that mount into my old rack. Well I chose the rain gutter style and let me tell you I couldn't be happier. As I was installing them I was somewhat worried about how sturdy it would be in the long run, but after I tightened up all of the bolts and twist knob, it was solid as a rock. Looks cool too. I would recommend picking up the locking cores, as it would be pretty to remove these, should somebody want to steal my new favorite jeep accessory :)

They don't tighten well enough to keep the bar from rotating. For certain applications like the storage boxes it works great. For Kayak mounts the mounts rotate and move as you try to load and unload. Yakima came out with a different shaped bar, but for long time users with the older system, no help. I tell all my friends who are just getting set up to go with Thule. After seeing the performance of my Yakimas they do.

Amazing that i could find a rack for my 22 year old car. It instaled in a snap and is rock solid. This part is almost as important as my bike, because now I can explore new roads.
