Rugged yet portable, the Therm-A-Rest Base Camp Sleeping Pad can do it all. If this does not meet your “rugged” and “portable” needs, I suggest you find a short man that lives in the woods. I heard they are both rugged and portable. I hope I didn’t offend short people. With a solid foam core and self-inflating technology, this sleeping pad provides maximum comfort without a pump or any electricity. This sleeping pad's high R-value keeps you warm on year-round camping trips. It’s all about top comfort: this sleeping pad puts 2 inches of solid foam core insulation and cushioning between you and the ground. Ideal for base campers, family campers, or car campers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The way to go for camping comfort if you dont have room for a full size air mattress! I've been using Therm-a-Rests for over 15 years. Since I was a youngin' way back in the boyscouts. I normally use a queen size air mattress for when I go car camping, but if space or weight is a concern I bring my Therm-a-Rest instead. while not as comfortable as a real deal air mattress, it definitely gets the job done. It is certainly leagues better than sleeping on the ground/floor of your tent. I have back issues from a car wreck, so I always bring some sort of bed/pad with me camping. I can say the Therm-a-Rest is extremely helpful with this. I wont wake up with knots all over my back, so I can get up and be ready to take on the day!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very comfy, better for car camping. My son was convinced he could take this on a backpacking trip and he did, but it's pretty big and bulky. My opinion is that there are much better options for only a bit more money for that use, but there's no denying this is a high-quality, comfortable pad to sleep on. If you've got the room for it (it's more the size of a traditional roll-up pad than more modern designs), it will serve just fine. I slept on it one night to prove my ultra-light was better but honestly didn't detect much difference in sleep quality. I would gladly sleep on this pad anytime as long as someone else carries it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from By this pad and the sandman will be your BFF! It's like my hiking buddy Ken says. "Your either comfortable on the trail or comfortable at camp." This pad will make you very comfortable at camp. Though it weighs in at a hefty 4 pounds, I think it is worth schlepping the weight to get a good nights sleep. ,,My girlfriend uses the Z-lite and likes it very much but she has commented on how much more comfortable my pad is to hers. Be sure to follow the care instructions (don't inflate with breath) and it will last you a lifetime. Winter sub zero? No problem. Summer high humidity? Pshhh...bring it. It's all that, and a bag of chips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is comfortable! I slept on a borrowed one of these and my sleeping bag for a week in the Red, and was able to get up and climb every day with little to no stiffness and soreness. Usually when I camp, I wake up achy and uncomfortable, so it was a welcome treat. I slept like a rock.,,,,My partner inflated them with ease (yay self inflater!) and we didn't have a sagging or drooping issue the whole time. Worked great, doesn't pack too large (it isn't tiny though) and I had to buy one for myself. And to think, I was shopping for those super thick heavy ones. This is much better for my needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for kids I bought two pads for my kids to use with the youth sleeping bags I also bought from Moosejaw. I picked these for my kids because they seemed to be a great balance between carry weight and thickness of the pad. Quality is as would be expected from Therm-a-rest, seemingly durable and consistent with other products they make. You will want to inflate them and store that way if possible, as they are relatively compressed when first taken out of their sleeves (included carry sleeve, big bonus IMHO) and seem to maintain some of that "memory" from being stored that way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a bit too heavy I've found this to be a relatively heavy pad. I've stopped using it and bought a newer lighter one with rounded edges instead of square ones so I'm carrying less. It also does not really self inflate. If you can give it lots of time it might inflate more by itself but mostly I am having to top up the air myself - otherwise I'll never get to sleep.,,,,Out of all the sleeping mats I've had Thermarest is always the most reliable - but for me these days this one is just that bit too heavy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I'm 6', 240 pounds, broad shoulders and a side sleeper, so finding a sleeping pad that it's too large to carry or that I'll hate in the morning is a major challenge. My model rolls up well and is sufficiently light, but it's a bit too wide to carry strapped horizontally to the bottom of my pack. It needs to be strapped vertically to my pack for hiking in. For car camping, it's perfectly fine. Regarding comfort, I can't imagine a better pad without trying to carry a mattress on your back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you are looking for a good night sleep in all conditions, go with this one. It is comfortable and insulates very well. It has kept me toasty warm and sleeping soundly on nights well below freezing, even when sleeping on a huge stone slab. I have no complaints with this one. It is a very good product and well worth the price... after all, if you don't sleep well, what good is the rest of your'll be grumpy, tired and uncomfortable, and hate the trip. So sweet dreams, and enjoy,
