The Men's Paramount Peak Convertible Pant by The North Face or the cool kids say TNF. Updated, these are TNF's or The North Face's best-selling convertible pants, featuring modernized lines, bluesign fabric (socially responsible manufacturing processes), extra carrying capacity and improved durability. Perfect for day hikes, globetrotting, or just touring the Forest Preserve, these pants have an UPF of 30, DWR finish- water repellency, quick drying, partial elastic waist with belt loops, zip-fly, and a built in belt. Convertible into 10" shorts, with color coded leg zips, and secure zip pocket near the right hand pocket for all your hiding needs. These pants remind of the one time I wanted to hike the Grand Canyon, but I couldn't because our tour bus was leaving, or something worthless. I don't know, but the pockets on these guys are really classy. North Face made these out of 100% nylon faille fabric.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are THE pants you want for hiking, great for casual wear as well I looked at almost every pair of hiking pants and arrived at these. Convertible, zip off bottoms and built in belt make these pants extremely versatile.,,,,It's critical to know your size if using for hiking. I'm 5' 11" 180-200lbs with a 34" waist x 30 to 31" inseam - I wear a MEDIUM SHORT in these pants. Pants are comfy, wick moisture and dry quick if wet. Wore them for 3 days in a row in Rocky Mt National Park and didn't have to hang them out the window on the way back.,,,,Other than being a little restrictive when hiking very steep inclines/steps, these are the perfect pants for hiking, and they look good too...picture doesn't do justice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice pants, priced a little high for the durability. I've used these pants for hiking, camping, backpacking, and rock climbing. I like the look and fit. They are pretty functional with the velcro flap rear pockets, cargo pockets, and zip off legs.Slightly water repellant and dry quickly. I would recomend these for cool to warm weather. In cold your gonna need a base layer, and if its really hot they are gonna be to hot even when zipped off into shorts. Both cargo pockets are showing wear after about a year of use, and one has a small hole. It's from these areas being rubbed against rocks, etc while I have things in the cargo pockets like a compact digital camera. 5'10, 175 32in waist, Med fits well

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had four pairs over 20 years, wear all the time, not as great as before but still solid Still have my first pair from 20 years ago, now just as shorts. Same with the second. Interesting experience, I washed the second - the sandy color - with a cheap dark green shirt and they were dyed by it, into a nice pale forest green, and which color has held up. North Face should consider it. Third, the fabric wore out - I do a lot of trekking, etc., so I threw them away. Fourth, also not as solid as the first two, the waste snap pops open, fabric seems OK. Now considering getting a fifth, and turning the fourth into shorts as well. Also wish they still had the original durability and hardware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great versatile pant Since I bought my first pair these are the only backpacking\hiking pants I buy. Pricey yes but the material is tougher and heavier then the basic ripstop you get with most other convertibles, but still shed water and dry quickly. Zip off legs are great, you don't even have to remove them just unzip the knees and you get great added ventilation. Only problem I have had is the seam in the crotch and seat begins to separate after hard wear (two different pair), but this can be expected from scrambling down over rock. Still have always lasted the trips and given me plenty of time to have the seam repaired and strengthened on both pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought two! I took a risk and bought two pairs of these at the same time. I have another pair of North Face pants that weren't convertible so I knew the quality would be great. I'm really glad I went ahead and picked up both. They are perfect for travelling as you can start the day off early when it's a bit cooler then unzip the lower legs for the warmer afternoon hikes. The only negative I found is the top button doesn't hold that well, but that may be more due to me needing to lose a few pounds than it has to do with the quality of the product. Overall I definitely recommend these pants.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Still good, but the design has gone down hill. I bought a pair of these pants 7 years ago and couldn’t be more pleased with their performance. For the sake of variety in color I decided to buy a new pair. I must say the new design is not as backpacker friendly as the old.,,,,The new pair are good, but it seems that North Face reduced the utility and quality of the new design. Perhaps they are catering more to a demographic that uses the pants on a daily basis rather than a utility/backpacking demographic. After all, one doesn’t usually need deep pockets, strong belt loops, a handy-dandy built-in d-ring, and a knife pocket while walking the dog around the neighborhood... but the backpacker in me wants these features back on these pants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Pair of Convertible Pants I've had these pants for over a year, lost some weight and had to order a smaller size to keep them from following off of me. I'm tough on gear and these pants have held up to the test of time. The zip pocket is effiecient but the 2 hip pockets are a little big. That is the only negative I have found. They fit well, allow for ample movement while hiking or climbing during almost any season. They aren't great in the summer because they are a little heavy/thick for warmer temperatures, however, the pants are perfect for fall, spring or winter camping. I recommend me these pants for any fall, spring or winter hiking or climbing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth it Return customer! I've gone thru a few pairs of pants in the back country and all-in-all these have been the best for me so far. The only weakness I've found has been car-camping campfires, some embers burned little holes. ,,,,I brought a pair of these on a 10 day trek in New Mexico and they are comfortable, breath well, dry quick etc.,,,,Also, I'm tall and the medium long are the best fitting hiking pants I can find!
