I won a pair of Salomon Men's XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Shoes by winning an apple-bobbing contest here at Moosejaw. Hands down the best prize I've ever won in my many years of apple-bobbing. I used to wear them as a day-to-day shoe, but after using them on a hiking trip I've relegated them to be a trail-only shoe. Don't get me wrong, they're great as an everyday shoe, but they're SO GOOD on the trail that I'm saving them for that. Lightweight, durable, stable, the XA Pro 3D Ultra 2s excel in any condition. They'll block out the wetness on a sloppy trail but are still breathable enough to prevent internal moisture buildup.

SPECIFICATIONS of the Salomon Men's XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Shoe
As a goretex product, this shoe keeps your feet dry and does its job. Otherwise, this shoe has its flaws. I have a low volume, flat foot, and this shoe took forever to break in and feel comfortable. I used this shoe as a trail runner and a hiker. As a trail runner, it was a bit too narrow and had a crappy footbed; i replaced with blue superfeet. As a hiker it had unacceptably bad traction on rocky surfaces. If you have long narrow feet and plan to do some mildly technical trail running, then this will suffice. Otherwise, there are better options.
Well made, good width, true to size! Light weight but very durable. I live in these shoes! Super comfortable and look nice too. I feel like that combo doesn't exist anymore but I was wrong. I finally found the perfect shoes!
"Great shoe with solid support. Amazing laces and good traction."
From the first time of putting them on they feel like you've been wearing them for months, very comfortable, lots of support with plenty of traction and I love the laces. I was concerned of a lace breaking until I saw you can buy a replacement kit for only a few dollars. Will continue to purchase this brand of shoes.
I had the Salomon XA Comp 2 Goretex XCR for about 6 (maybe more) years until they got too nasty to keep around, and I loved them. These are the replacement pair. They will be used just as much.Overall, they're a good, tough, and versatile shoe. Compared to the old model, they fixed the issue of the "laces" cutting through the "eyelets," and that's a big plus. The sinching slide thing is smaller and lighter than the old one, but just as effective. Some people complain about them loosening, but I usually keep mine loose enough to slip off. I did tighten them up for a canyon tour and small rim hike and they were just fine. In fact, these are perfect for Providence Canyon State Park in Georgia since it's always muddy down there. (Beautiful human accident, that "canyon.")Grip is exceptional. In some ways, it's almost too good. The lugs stay clean, too! My only complaint: they're very stiff and need a break-in period.
Expensive, but darn well worth it! This is my 7th pair I've purchased in the last three years and haven't found anything else that compares to performance. Totally awesome! Beyond compare! Righteous! Look good, too! (But not as good as the the two blondes in bikinis pictured on the Moosejaw website holding a Moosejaw towel at the beach!)
This shoe met and exceeded my expectations. Great for a dash through the boulders or a run with the dog. Comfortable for all day wear, no break in period to speak of, surprisingly lightweight and truly waterproof. The lacing system takes a little getting use to but it is secure and a nice change from tying or adjusting every mile or so. I am going to buy a second pair for when these wear out. This is my first Salomon shoe and certainly won't be my last.
"Fantastic fit, super comfortable, true to size....bonus, they keep your feet dry!!! Duh!"
Great trail running/ light hiking shoe that performs like a champ! (unlike me) These are the third set of Salomom trail running shoes that I have owned and I've been totally happy with all three sets. I actually still wear the other two sets for messing around, as they are lacking the support they once had for jogging. Basically, run the Paint Creek Trail while in town and they perform great.....no problems. Try em', you'll like em'
"Well-Rounded Shoe. Durability is the only flaw."
First and foremost; I don't wear these year-round, but they do see quite a bit of use during the summer. I've had mine for four years, and they're great! My only complaint, and reason for me not ranking this product as "Love It!" is because my pair has hole on both sides of the toe crease..... Prior to the rips, the shoes were totally waterproof in ankle-deep water. I will likely get a few more summers out of my pair, granted that I am mindful not to go romping through the shallow water anymore. If you've got the gold, you've got a good product!
I believe that these shoes/boots/whatever are the most comfortable device you could put on a human being's foot. Lightweight, tough, and water resistant. They are great to play a long game of ultimate frisbee or go on a day hike. Suck it gravity, these shoes make you fly!But seriously, they break in pretty quickly, they do not smell, even after I have worn them for many hikes and recreational activities. It would be wise to read this review and then purchase these suckers because itz de best!
