I can't say enough good things about these shoes. They are well constructed, very comfortable, easy to put on and take off, provide more than adequate grip/traction in wet grass, dry sand, pavement, and normal dirt. (I haven't ran them in mud, yet.) They feel light on the feet, which is surprising when you look at their size. The lugs on the bottom alone give the impression they will feel heavy, but they don't. Speaking of the lugs on the bottom, so far they have held up well (only ~10ish pavement miles) but that will be one thing I keep an eye one. Make note: I normally wear a 10.5 - 11.5. I ordered two pairs a 10.5 and an 11. Both are too small. I am sending the 10.5's back and replacing them with 12's. I don't think the difference between the 11 and 11.5 will be enough so I'm jumping up to the 12. Overall: Very good shoes, highly recommended; order a half to full size larger than normal.
I bought these to replace my Salomon's XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 shoes which gave me two years of great wear and traction. While I was initially wary of the lacing system, I liked it so much I wanted to follow up with a similar pair. These have not disappointed at all. In the first 10 days I put about 30 miles on these in mixed terrain (dirt, mud, scree, rocks) and was impressed with the killer grip the new soles provided. Great braking and cornering, zero slippage. The shoes are nice and light, breath well, and fit true to size. Just a great shoe all around.
I was very loyal to a model of Columbia running shoes I discovered several years ago. They have been discontinued and now I needed a new pair. While training for a second Tough Mudder, I was told to check out these shoes for race day. I decided to take the plunge and go big with these shoes. They look great and are incredibly comfortable. I am impressed by the design and the inclusion of materials that do not absorb water. That will be important on race day. These shoes are also great in the gym; the aggressive but soft tread have been great for cross training and will become my go to trainers soon. I think I have found my next ideal pair. With all the color combos I can get a new color each time. Great shoes, I can see wearing this design for several years going forward.
"Great Trail running and casual sneaker!"
I first liked the look of the Salomon speedcross 3. Im not a trail runner or any kind of runner, but I liked the look so I started reading other reviews. All the reviews that I read were awesome. So after going back and forth with myself about spending over 100 on a sneaker, was a hard thing for me, but I did and im glad I did because these sneakers are awesome, everything that I read was true. And they look great, I have gotten alot of looks and comments on how great they look. So I would definitely recommend them.
Recently switched back to full support running shoes. This shoe and my last pair(salomon XR Mission) provide great support. Its a good brand despite being French. I would recommend them to friends or you people. Run 25 miles a week, mixed on and off road.
I'm going for round two of the Speedcross 3. It's a very good trail shoe - plenty comfortable and great grip. The outsole comes equipped with aggressive studs that work great on loose surfaces and offer the wearer a little extra confidence. I'm not too keen on the lacing system which seems a half-assed attempt at innovation, but it isn't a show stopper. The colors available are a bonus - they aren't as gauche as other offerings in the running shoe realm and don't pigeonhole someone wearing them as a tasteless sod.
I purchased these shoes for tough mudder New England at the suggestion of fellow mudders. These shoes performed flawlessly in muddy, wet, rocky mountainous terrain. The traction was incredible, didn't slip once traversing black diamond expert trails full of mud. I got these shoes absolutely covered in mud. While many people at the race threw their shoes away (or donated) I just washed the off with a garden hose and they were perfect. If these passed a tough mudder you can best believe they can handle anything you can throw at them! The only negative I experienced was the insole slid forward when running down steep mountain sides but I'm talking some really extreme declines.
So I recently started running cross country in college... I tried to do as much summer running on these bad boys as possible, and I loved them to death. They handled abuse almost to well. Perfect for some fast trails with good friends. As the season started up I started having issues with my feet and shins from pounding pavement (different shoes) and have recently been doing workouts on my own out on the trails in these, I have had no issues or pain while on the trail. So while they are supposed to be for racing/speed, they are comfy enough to handle some heavy miles. to sum it up, I'd tell even my worst enemies to buy these, not because they deserve it, but the shoes too good not to rave about
Shoe offer a lot of stability and has noticeable cushioning at the heel sole (which is removable). Super easy to strap on. Drawstring system is able to be hidden inside a secret pocket in the tongue. Though I am worried about heat once I get running. Good traction, just don't go off a cliff. Overall good shoe, tho I kinda wish I picked a flashier color than the grey.
"Awesome. 1st or 2nd best pair of shoes I have owned"
Great lacing design. Toss up between these and the fellcross. Wish these had a lower drop but it is really only mildly noticeable on the downs. Soles wear quickly, shoes however really hold up. In my opinion the size 8.5 us is wider in the speedcross than the fellcross so these would be a better choice if you have wide feet. The fells are more money have a lower drop and a more snug but it is really a toss up as both are performing so well on the different terrains they encounter. These have bigger but less lugs than the fells as a side note.
"Perfect trail running shoes in good weather condition, but...."
This shoes is very comfortable, the breathability is incredible, the grip ând the stability in the mud and trail is very good, but whit water azards your socks risk to be sweat and the skin of your feet risk to have blister. Whit wet condition this shoes is a stupid choose. The soles isn't not grippy whit rock, there is little gripping surface for rock, and the wet rock...uhhhh ist worse. The sole have a shor tlife whit this terrain, this shoes was built for trail and ground terrain in to the woods.
