DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. It's cute to think of a fabric as being afraid of water. Now if only they could make a bearphobic coating. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Women's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

• Boxy, athletic, with a traditional crew neck.

• Formfitting and longer in the torso, with a wider, deeper neck (not quite scoop).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lightweight jacket My Patagonia fleeces (better sweater, R2) are size S and on the snug side (5'5'', 130) so I ordered a M in this jacket. It's a bit larger than I had expected. I am going to keep it assuming I will layer a fleece underneath in anything below 55 degrees or so, and even then it will be a bit roomy. If you like a very fitted look, go with what you wear in other Patagonia items and don't size up. Quality wise I was really happy with it, lightly lined, true to color. I have not tested it in the rain yet but will be taking it backpacking in China in a few weeks and feel pretty comfortable that it has good rain resistance given the Patagonia brand, seams and construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dry, great hood, breathable I purchased the Torrentshell last spring, mainly because I finally broke down and needed to invest in a decent rain jacket. I've worn it during a run in the rain/sleet, camping, walking, etc. My top priority was waterproofness, and this jacket works SO well for that. The hood is the perfect size and can pretty much be adjusted to fit anyone. I also love the pit zips - I've never had a problem with water leaking in while I have them open (which I do most of the time, because when it's warm out, any rain jacket gets hot). Last, but not least, I love how the whole jacket can fold into its pocket and clip onto a carabiner. So handy for carrying!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good jacket for this price point This is a good jacket for hiking and backpacking. There are much nicer ones out there, but they are much more expensive. So, if you want a good jacket without blowing up your bank account, this may be the one. Likes: fit is comfortable (true to size or slightly small In my opinion), pretty durable, pit zips, good hood adjustability. Dislikes: a bit clammy when moving fast, delaminated quickly all at once after about a year (but had some mileage on it by then, to be fair), would like to see some bigger sizes - bigger women may have to buy the men's version. Overall, a really good outdoor activity or casual rain jacket for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Basic Rain Jacket Why it's good: Repels rain well, has two pockets and pit vents, the hood is big enough to fit over helmets (I've used with both with my bike and climbing helmets), acts as a good shell with a fleece or whatever you'd want (bathrobe? tighty whities?) underneath, and I like the color. Why it's not great: It leaves me wanting for an inside pocket, the zipper isn't sealed, and I kind of wish I had gotten the Torrentshell stretch instead (it's pretty stiff). It works well as a basic rain jacket but it's nothing fancy and you can probably find something at a lower price point that's comparable. I wouldn't purchase this jacket again unless I got a good deal on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great choice! I picked out this jacket as a Christmas present and it was an excellent choice. I did try it on at a store before purchasing it from Moosejaw. I haven't gotten to wear it in a hard rain yet, but it's done a great job with drizzles so far. I was looking for a lighter-weight jacket that can be worn in summer rains and this one feels like it will be perfect. It fits well but is also loose enough that I can bundle up underneath if it's a really cold rain. So far my only semi-complaint is that its very stiff and crinkly, but I think that will lessen the more I wear it and once it's washed. I would definitely recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket for the price! The jacket is everything that you could want in a mid-line rain jacket. It has plenty of pockets and does a great job at keeping you dry. I've had mine for a few years and I've used it quite a bit on various excursions, as well as day-to-day life in the drizzly weather. The H2No technology isn't as durable as GoreTex, and I'm starting to notice that my jacket isn't keeping me as dry as it once did. However, the price point is much lower than a comparable GoreTex gear, and if you plan to use this jacket only on occasion for years to come, this jacket is for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing jacket and great a shell for any weather! I got this for a rain coat and biking shell for spring but I am amazed at the versatility and the great fit! Women's shells and rain coats tend to be too short in the torso and have two short of arms so I wind up soaking wet no matter how waterproof the jacket was designed to be. This jacket is great and doesn't have that problem! The regular fit allowed me to layer a fleece under it for use on a light snow day in April and it was long enough that it kept me dry (5' 10"). Even though it is a regular fit they still tailored it to be feminine so I don't feel like a marshmallow once I add a layer. It folds into it's pocket which is great so that I can take it on the go to school or on a hike!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely Worth the money This is a great jacket for a rainy day and I love that it can pack so small, a big deal when you have to carry all you own on your back! The size was a little tight so I just ordered one size larger than normal so that I could layer under it and not have it too tight. Really, I was most impressed by the customer service and their quick responses! They were able to price match for me which allowed me to get this jacket from a website that is completely trustworthy, which is hard to say these days! I will definitely be coming back for all my other backpacking needs!

Will it keep me warm in winter? Like is it insulated or anything or should I get a different coat for the winter? I live in Kansas so the winters aren't too intense but I don't want to be cold.

Asked by: Libby
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! While I've never been to Kansas during the winter, I think this jacket may be a little thin for you. Yes, it is waterproof, and great to use while out in the rain, but I would never categorize it as a winter jacket as it has only fleece for it's insulation. Your best bet for this jacket will be to use it as a shell. Hope this helped you out!
