I bought this jacket to replace my old soft shell for ice climbing. I'm usually on the cold side, hence I decided to go with a jacket that had a little built- in insulation. It provides a light amount of insulation, which it does so with out making you look like the Michelin-man. The jacket has a very stream-line fit and I find the amount of insulation to be just right. The hood fits perfectly over a helmet, but could be adjusted if you wanted to wear it without one. Water-repellancy is great. Overall, I think this is fantastic jacket for any winter sport- ice climbing, snowshoeing, or skiing/snowboarding.
