Patagonia Men's R3 Jacket, comprised of a warm, high-loft, compressible Regulator® fabric, is a great mid-layer fleece for a variety of conditions. I'd try to compare the outer fabric of the R3 to the fur of some animal... but there just isn't a creature out there that is this soft. You gotta step up your game, nature; make an even softer sheep or something. Anyways, Patagonia developed the Regulator® Polartec® Thermal Pro® polyester fabric to wick moisture, dry quickly and retain warmth. Polartec Power Dry® panels run down the sides and undersides of the arms giving freedom of movement. So throw on this fleece by itself or under a shell to keep yourself active no matter the temperature... and try not to look down on all those not-as-soft critters; they're trying their best.

FEATURES of the Patagonia Men's R3 Jacket

  • Extremely warm, high-loft directional knit Polartec Thermal Pro provides maximum warmth-to-weight ratio, wicks moisture and dries fast
  • Stretchy Polartec Power Dry on side panels and underarms for improved fit, shape retention and abrasion resistance
  • A re-engineered pattern offers a refined technical fit, reduced underarm lift, and offset seams for comfort under outerwear and packs
  • Center-front zipper has Sonic/Stitch seam construction to reduce bulk and improve suppleness; with a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • One left chest pocket and two high-hand pockets have Slim Zip installs, clean finished zipper garages, and are harness-and pack-compatible two internal drop-in mesh pockets

Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Akward I bought this for my husband 5' 10" (175 lbs). We ended taking it back. We both wanted to love it but it's way shaggier (yes, that's a term) than we expected and the arms fit very tight. The sleeves were long and too fitted so he was not comfortable putting thicker shirts underneath. We ended up with the North Face Reversible Brantley instead and he ZlOVES it, pthe fit anf function are much better and very cool looking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet fleece! This is a great fleece. I have a hundred weight TNF fleece that just wasn't cutting it on the cooler nights up in the Eastern Sierras. In comes the Patagonia R3, BOOM. It is much warmer than the hundred weight, duh, and not only that, but I wore it out to a bbq this last weekend and no less than three ladies were getting real handsy with my torso; the high-loft Polartech is just that irresistible. As others have mentioned, you aren't going to roll the sleeves up on this bad boy. The cuffs are made of grizzly bear strength material that doesn't really stretch. You know who cares about that? I have no idea, definitely not me. I'm wearing this fleece cause it's cold out. If you really want to expose your arms to the icy cold elements get a knife and get to choppin' (not advised). This is a sweet piece of kit, highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, unless you want ultra-packable item Comfortable, girls steal it while you're not looking due to softness :) It's great if you don't need ultra-packable. I personally returned it and went with the Arc'teryx Cerium LT, which is an awesome jacket and packs in an included stuff sack, and is a bit more fitted in the same size I wear in the R3. I wear a Large waterproof jacket, both the R3 and the Cerium I wear an XL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking, warm, comfortable fleece from a reputable company. Like the look and comfort level of the R3. I chose this over the R4 because I wanted something that would breath a little better. Definitely not wind proof, but comfortable in 20 - 30 degree temps. Had my doubts about the side panels not being fleece but have not even noticed a difference when wearing. Looks like I will have a new favorite jacket !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from R3 is so soft and warm that I can wear it anywhere in winter. I'm hesitant when to buy R3 because of his high price. But then I found R3 value for money. I can wear my R3 to travel, to exercise, usually also can wear to go shopping. In R3 I can keep fit and in warm. With R3, I can say that this winter is not too cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Jacket I gave this jacket as a Christmas gift. It is not only warm, but it is lightweight. The recipient loved the shade of green and was super stoked for the weather to change so they could wear it. Thanks Moosejaw!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sick Jacket The R3 is great for wear everyday or as a base layer when you're skiing or hiking. I highly recommend it as it's damn fuzzy and about the right amount of insulation for a casual jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's okay This is my least favorite patagonia product. It's still a good jacket, but buy a Synchilla Snap-T Pullover. They are better priced and keep you just as warm.
