If you’re looking for an eco-friendly, compressible, breathable, versatile fleece jacket, look no further than the Patagonia Men’s R2 Jacket. This jacket is made with 6.1 ounces of Polartec Thermal Pro fleece, which is a 64% recycled polyester/spandex blend, and weighs in at 13.1 ounces. Patagonia strategically placed Polartec Power Stretch panels along the sides of the body and arms, adding extra air flow, a closer fit and easier motion control, making the R2 an ideal layering choice when hitting the slopes. In mid-range temps, this Patagonia men’s fleece jacket will hold up as a stand alone piece for almost any activity thanks to the directional knit of the short sheared/high loft F3 (fleece face fabric). You’re looking at a slim fit with this piece. Definitely designed with the athlete in mind.

Polartec Thermal Pro

Polartec Thermal Pro
Polartec Thermal Pro is soft and plush on the inside, but has a durable exterior. It's a lot like an M&M. But not really. Thermal Pro is fast drying, highly breathable, wind and water repellent and has an impressive warmth to weight ratio. M&M has nothing on that. Too bad you can't buy Polartec Thermal Pro with peanuts or peanut butter on the inside, though.

Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Comfortable, Great Fit I have had the jacket for a week now and absolutely love it. I am 6'1" 180lbs and ordered a large. The athletic cut gives it a great slim fit, and the sleeves are a perfect length. (I like the sleeves a tad long though). I could probably get away with a medium with the length but wear a layer or two under and wanted a bit of room. ,,,,The jacket is really warm. I instantly put it on upon opening the package and noticed how much this jacket retains heat. It is great for a chilly morning or lounging around in; it is REALLY comfortable. Doesn't block wind, its not supposed to, but makes an excellent layer under a windproof shell. ,,,,,,GREAT JACKET

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely comfortable and very warm considering it's weight. Keep your shell handy, though! I've only had the R2 for a short time, but I've found it very useful in a wide variety of situations. Due to it's light weight and somewhat-slim fit, it is ideal for sitting around the house, or running around town in mildly chili weather. The fit is described as "Slim" by Patagonia. I am a lanky 6' tall 145 lb guy, so the Small size fit me perfect. The jacket has a surprising amount of stretch, which keeps the waist cinched tight. I was aware that the R2 wasn't windproof, but I was surprised when a breeze sucked all of the heat out of this jacket when walking into a store. A shell is a MUST with this insulating layer if there is a remote chance of wind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Soft and fluffy I bought this fleece because it's highly packable, lightweight and makes a great layer under a jacket or shell. The R2 is ridiculously soft, you'll find that chicks get can't enough of it, so get ready for some rubbin'. It loses a point for wind resistance, which is nearly nonexistent, but it doesn't claim to be wind proof so I'm just being picky here. My advice is to find a girl that likes how it feels (and they all do) and use her as a shield against the wind...a shell is also a viable option. The price is steep, but Patagonia makes great gear and is one of the more environmentally conscious companies out there, so you might be saving a fjord or some salmon by supporting them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should You Buy This Jacket? Was Einstein's Theory Good.. Relatively! I ordered this as a replacement to a well worn Patagonia fleece. If you're considering a fleece jacket, then you already know they're perfect for when the weather turns cool and also make a great choice for a base or mid layer underneath a wind or water resistant shell when the temp. really drops. ,, I usually wear a large but ordered an XL because they're a "Trim Fit" and even though my hands and feet are normal size....well you know,,,,What I Like:,,Roomy hand pockets, compressible, can be worn just about anywhere,,,,What I Don't Like:,,Shots fired in anger, drinking milk past it's expiration date,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less Is More I got the new and improved R2 to replace an old R2 I bought about ten years ago. The updates are great. Better fit (this one is a little slim -- but not skin tight; the old one was boxy) and better construct. I like the fuzzy/hairy fleece feel and look. The Narwhal Grey is a bit lighter grey than pictured, but still obviously grey. Lightweight and packable, it actually seems warmer than the old version. Over capilene and under a shell and it performs great in the snow. It also looks nice around town with khakis or jeans. I am 6'2" and around 200 lbs, consider myself more or less fit, and wear an XL. The sleeves are a touch long (typical with Patagonia), but it fits everywhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my favorite pieces of clothing The perfect light weight jacket...keeps you warm, not hot and fits great under a shell when things get a bit nastier outside. It's amazingly soft too. I love my R4, but it's got to be pretty cold before I won't overheat in it. I'm thinking the R2 (with the occasional addition of a shell) is going to give me the comfort of the R4, sans the excess heat across a wide range of conditions. I'm actually considering buying a second the brown, like the green too. The fit is slim, so don't plan on wearing much more than a long sleeve t-shirt under it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mid layer! I have owned several North Face jackets but I was really keen to try out a Patagonia jacket that was comparable. Let me tell you this jacket does not disappoint! It is my go to jacket for everything whether it's just bumming around the house or using to layer up while I go trekking through the woods. It is comfy and stylish with a fitted look. A lot of times I will wear this over a hooded sweatshirt for extra layering on those really cold days. I would by this jacket a thousand times over, I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket for layering Had this jacket for just over a year and a half now and I love it, so much so that I'm waiting to get another one when they go on sale again.,,,,Its a great light weight jacket that provides good warmth. It fits close to the body so it can layer easily and doesnt have any unnecessary padding due to its nice cut.,,,,The only thing I'd watch out for is that its not very windproof, so if you're going to wear it out by itself, put a layer or two underneath, or think about using a shell on top to block out the wind.
