Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect cool weather baselayer! The Capilene 3 base layer system is absolutely perfect in the conditions I used them in. I recently wore these on a weekend backpacking trip and discovered that they will very easily keep you warm in 40 degree f temps if you are only mildly active, and keep you warm in 50 degree f temps if you are standing still. During moderate activity I began to get a little too warm, but lucky for me this base layer is excellent at wicking and quick drying. For wood gathering and processing in 40 degree temps the Capilene 3s did seem to get a tad warm. Time for me to pick up some Capilene 2s! Would absolutely recommend to everyone I know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Necessary for anything involving snow I have read the reviews of Patagonia base-layers and saw the great price on Moosejaw so I thought I would give it a shot. I did not realize how ridiculous I had been waiting this long. The construction is amazing with sealed and strong seams, the fabric is smooth and soft against your private places, and you will stay warm against any drafts or wind. I have not come across any cons yet. A word of advice is in order though, I ordered a size too large so it is a bit loose. It is tough with slim fit apparel to get that magic size so shoot for the middle, what your actual size is will be perfect. Great manufacturer with a social conscious that actually lives up to the hype, astonishing!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Warmth, Great Ventilation, STINKY! If you are single, like me, you probably don't want this product because the whole town will know when you've come down from the mountain. Let me be the first, and the last, to tell you that this shirt will STAAAANK when you are done using it--if you're doing it right. A simple dunk in the river and a hang dry will eliminate some of this, but unfortunately, with this material, you can't ever REALLY get the stank out. Perhaps a washer and dryer would do the trick, but seriously who has a washer or a dryer handy?? Bottom line--it'll perform, no doubt--but that high performance comes with a price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly versatile shirt I reallized I wrote a reveiw earlier today suggesting that another piece is the one piece I would recommend everyone have. I realized that the capilene 3 MW crew would give it a run for its money. While this shirt isn't quite as versatile in filling into non-athletic endeavors, I wear this shirt ALL THE TIME during the winter. I use it as a base or mid-layer when skiing, and wear it when running (alone in the low 40s, or with another layer if it drops down to the lower 30s). I have 3 of these shirts, ensuring I can wear one every day in the winter...depending on how often I do laundry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great shirt functionally, fit a bit long I love the material of this shirt, works great as advertised; however, it's a bit long for my liking (for the sake of reference, t hangs down about 1.5" from my Moosejaw hoodie). ,,,,I'm 6 ft and 160, so basically the prototypical size for "slim fit," and I purchased a large. I should have got a medium though because I wish it were shorter (and it's not slim enough to the point where a size down would have been too tight). ,,,,I have another Capilene 3, same size, that I purchased a couple years ago and it fit me much better (length-wise), maybe Patagonia changed their sizing?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Patagucci Joant This midweight baselayer is great for fall, winter and spring. Breathes quite well and insulates pretty good without it being tight as a two-dollar watch. The sizing is a big large though. I am 6'1" 185lbs with a 41" Chest and 33-34" arm length and a large hangs off of me a tad bit. I have room to wear a t-shirt under it, even though I was looking for a next-to-skin fit. If you are looking for a trimmer fit as well, go a size down. There was alot of shirt leftover to tuck in. All in all, a great looking and wearing midweight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better base layer than your own skin If you want a base layer that will keep you warm (that's why it's a level 3 Capilene), dry (Capilene), long sleeved, avid outdoorsman shirt then buy this shirt. I've purchased several x3 over the years and am never disappointed. Patagonia tends to run a little large for some reason (or at least every product I've ever purchased from them) which means my 6', 180 lbs frame wears a medium. Definitely do not buy the large unless you were looking for a dress, in which case do buy a large...because it's a dress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great layer or even by itself my previous favorite was my REI's LTS crew, but i've switched over to the capilene layering system from patagonia. it's great under/over a t-shirt for redpointing a route in the cold, or hanging out at school. The alpha green is a great neutral color. you won't be disappointed. The only thing I was wondering about was it's midweight claim, I thought it was on the light myself. maybe i need to procure the heavy weight crew next time. i'm still psyched on the purchase though.
