Osprey Airspeed

Osprey Airspeed
Using peripheral suspension design this lightweight, three dimensional suspension eliminates foam and backpanel materials and replaces it with lightweight suspended mesh. Three dimensionally shaped to allow maximum airflow and optimal tension and load carry sets Osprey apart from other tensioned mesh backpacks.

Osprey Peripheral Frame

Osprey Peripheral Frame
Peripheral frame was a departure from the norm many years ago and it’s still the foundation of our gear hauling packs. A wire frame runs along the outside of the backpanel directly connecting the upper load lifters and the central core of the pack to the hipbelt to transition and spread the load. Allowing natural torsional movement, effective adjustable torsos, and different load range and backpanel builds makes this suspension design truly innovative.

Please note that the info provided above refers to the torso size each pack will fit, and NOT any dimensions of the pack. Below are some steps for how to get your torso length. You should probably have someone help take this measurement for you so it is accurate. And they might accidentally touch your butt.

• Start at the iliac crest, which is the top of the hipbones on the side of your body. These act like a shelf for supporting a pack hipbelt.
• From this level on your spine, measure to the C7 vertebrae, the knobby bone at the base of your neck when you put your head down.
• Make sure you keep your back as straight as possible while measuring.
• This torso measurement determines what size Osprey pack you should carry. Refer to the size charts above to find your ideal size.
• If you are in between sizes, it is ideal to try them both on before ordering.

• Measure around your hips at your iliac crest, NOT your waist.
• A properly fitted hipbelt rides centered over the hipbones and needs to be very snug.
• The padded portion should wrap well around your hips, leaving a gap of 3 to 6 inches between the tips of the both hip pads when securely tightened.
• Refer to the Hipbelts size chart above to help determine your ideal Osprey pack size, but again, your torso length is what should determine your pack size, NOT the hipbelt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag for dayhikes, wish the mesh side pockets could hold a nalgene though... My favorite feature about this bag is the mesh on the back that allows air to flow between the bag and my back! It keeps me way cooler than my old backpack. The bag is well thought out and holds plenty for a day hike. There are a couple of small pockets so that you can keep your wallet and keys in a handy place, as well as buckles on the outside to strap a light jacket or poles to. The only thing that I think could have been done better is that the side mesh pockets are only large enough to hold a bottle the diameter of a soda can. Wouldn't be a problem if I used the camelback pocket (convenient), but I prefer water bottles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome, light-weight pack I won't lie, I just got my pack in the mail yesterday. But upon opening the packaging, I threw in my gear and went off to a hike. The pack is extremely well made with many different components for every in kind of use (hiking poles, ice chipper, camel back, etc.). On my hike, I was impressed with the lightness of the pack and the comfort of it. The air movement was also awesome... not a lot of sweat dripping into the pack. ,,,,It's the perfect size for a daypack or an overnight and get fit quite a bit of gear if packed well. Also, I'm 5'10 and the Large fits me really well. ,,,,Get this pack! I can't wait to use mine again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this bag! This is the absolute favorite of all my packs. I use it on a daily basis and it is so comfortable. The taxes into the system is excellent and I can easily carry it when It has a full load. There are tons of pockets including one main one above the head one back and two on the belt and one on the harness suspension strap. I mainly use this bag for every day use and my training pack And can comfortably carry it with a full load over long distances. The bag literally hugs your back like a parachute. The best endorsement that I can get for this bag is that I liked it so much I bought it in the Stratos 34 as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack, Daily use or on a hike. I bought this pack looking to replace a smaller pack I used a lot with the scout troop. So far it has been day hiking, over night, summer camp. and lugging my daily crap back and forth to the office. Great size for bringing jackets for the family unit and the two outside pockets are great. The belt pockets are perfect for the phone. The extra pocket on the shoulder strap is good also. As far as the fit, AWESOME! The Air Mesh keeps it off your back and even after lugging this thing through Animal Kingdom for a full day in June, no sticky sweat mark in the middle of the back. The final feature that sold me on this one is the packable rain cover. I am sold on Osprey .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A steal at this price! I realize that stealing is (supposedly) a sin but do yourselves a favor and make an exception for this and damn near any Osprey pack. I day hike often with my two sons and we swear by Osprey. ,,,,The pack has been redesigned for Spring 2010 and I consider the changes to be improvements over the previous version, especially the larger AirSpeed Suspension stretch mesh back panel. Also, this updated model offers an integrated rain cover; the previous model required you to purchase it separately. That feature alone knocks $24.00 to $39.00 off the total cost of the pack, depending on pack size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Pack Rocks I've only had this pack for about a month, but so far its been an amazing day pack. As with most Osprey packs this one is very durable. The skin is tough and the stitching is solid so far. ,,,,I chose this pack over the osprey raptor because it is $30 cheaper than the largest Raptor model. Obviously, the difference is that the Stratos doesn't have a bladder, but it does have a slit to add one later.,,,,The airspeed suspension is great since I'm a guy who sweats pretty heavily. Having the space between my back and the pack keeps things fairly comfortable. Along with that, the frame is light making ideal for day hikes. ,,,,Overall, this is a great pack and would definitely recommend it to a friend!,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great pack! I was looking for a pack for day hikes and this really fit the bill. The pack is comfortable and fit me perfectly. (I'm 5'9" and went with the Medium). The shoulder straps and hip belt have a nice amount of padding and the built in rain cover has definitely come in handy. Theres plenty of room for my gear and food/water. The trekking pole loop is also a handy feature and keeps the poles in a good position and out of the way. The whistle on the chest strap is an interesting little feature also. Overall a very well made and well thought out pack. Would definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT multi day pack…! I used this 24L (size large is 26L) pack for a multi day adventure race. The external wire frame worked great, and I placed the hydration bladder on the outside of the pack between the wire frame and the mesh backing, this gave me all the extra space inside for all my gear and food. Other packs have you place the hydration bladder inside using up need space. The Osprey Stratos 24 worked great while running, biking, and trekking. The built in water proof cover it came with was used about 75% of the race. ,,Can’t wait to race with this pack again ,,
