Perfect size and features for me using it as a weekend summer pack. Can stuff stove, sleeping bag, tent, and food inside it. A decent number of attachment points on the outside work well for a pad, poles, and water. If you have a synthetic sleeping bag you might want to go up a bit in pack size for overnight trips or you can rig it to the outside.
im 5 10 but i have a long torso i got the m/l it fit great on lowest adjustment, it was great for a day pack but left me wanting for overnight. i have a kestrel 48 ordered to replace it, i have not used a hydration pack with it. but have one coming with my 48. it seems like if you had a lot of money and was well prepared and organized you could fit a sleeping bag a tent a few clothes food water and a FEW odds and ends. but i dont and am not so im getting a bigger pack.

Just completed the 4 day Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu with this bag, with great results.Pack contained all daily essentials + hydration (carried 2-24 oz. bottles). My wife carried a smaller capacity version (Kestrel 28) and she too loves her pack.BTW, if you've ever considered doing this trek, you need tounderstand if you can adapt to heavy physical exertion at altitude,be in excellent physical condition, and be prepared for arduoushiking - the trail is mostly stone with very high steps (20" plus) andyou need quality hiking boots that provide excellent stability. The hike kicked my ass but it was worth it. I'm 63 years old....just sayin'.
