Product Description Item No.   10019227

The Mountain Axe by Omega Pacific is great for chopping steps, building snow anchors or bollards, performing boot/axe belays and, of course, self-arresting. Our axe is built from laser-cut NiCrMo, Tig-welded heads, spikes, and aircraft-quality 6061 T6 aluminum alloy. Built to take a beating, this axe is no beast. However, at under 22 oz., you’ll barely notice when it’s lashed to your pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid ice axe. I bought this ice axe for Mount Washington. The previous year I had used a Black Diamond 65 cm Raven. Good axe also, but for much of the climb we used the axe in the cane position. 65cm was too short so I purchased the Omega Pacific axe in 80 cm length. It is a heavier axe than the Black Diamond, and well constructed. The pick was not sharpened, so I file sharpened the point and the teeth. The axe performed well and was comfortable to hold even after hours of climibing. I did not use the adze, but the pick and the spike were both put to good use. This axe stuck well in ice and snow. For the price, this is a really nice axe and will hold up for many more adventures!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool. Excellent function. Reasonable price. I am super happy with my new Omega Pacific ice axe. The 80cm length is ideal for downleg bracing while making traverses. The adze is perfect for smooth-motion downswing step-cutting while remaining upright. The pick is strong, with good penetration, but light weight. The shaft diameter is perfect for my hands pretty avg, size Large glove. The only thing I could have wished for was a bit more grip along the smooth shaft solved by wrapping five bands of friction tape at the needed points along the shaft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Price and its not that heavy... It's hard to beat the price on this axe. I spent the day chopping steps and practicing self arrest with and found it to pretty reasonable. Noticeable features include a fluted head design to reduce weight, and double pins that fasten the head to the handle. Nice durable powder coating has kept it looking pretty good despite some long harsh days on the mountain. Great basic tool for a good price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great axe for the money This axe doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other ones on the market, but for the price, it can't be beat. It feels really solid and has a nice steel head. Self arrests were easy. If you're on a tight budget and looking for an axe that will last you a long time, this is it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong-tough -little bit heavy There are many axes out there, chose your comprimise. I decided to get this heavy ice axe because it was well built and tough. Works for me and looks like it will last forever. There are lighter axes but, I haven't seen one so well made and as durable. Works for me, tough but heavy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rugged axe for general mountaineering Solid mountaineering Axe. Although not the lightest, it is quite durable with a great steel head- none of that aluminum crap that wont do you any good in a real self-arrest. If you are looking for a good quality but low price axe, this is it. All the standard features.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit on the heavy side, but overall a well built and indespinsible part of any alpinists rack. A very basic design offers all the features you'd expect in a decent mountaineering axe. Although it is a bit heavier than other comparable models 22oz, it certainly isn't lacking any features and offers a quality head design.
