Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like your own personal furnace This jacket is A-MAZ-ING. I'd always bought the department store jackets before that weight about 15 pounds and don't keep you that warm and finally invested in this super warm down coat after moving to Chicago. I was skeptical about how warm it would be after arriving in a super tiny box, but after being out and about in downtown Chicago, I actually had to unzip the coat at times because I was so toasty. Beware though if you have long arms, I originally ordered an extra small with my average size being a zero, and the arms are cut a little short so I moved up to a small. Other than that this coat will be your best friend out in the snow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it! This is my first down coat, and I looked for a long time before settling on this one. It's soft and lightweight and a joy to put on in the cold northeast winter. Hard to avoid all puffiness in these coats, but the drawstring at the waist helps. When it arrived totally flat in a small box, I thought there was no way the coat could do the job. But it's kept me very warm in windy, 20-30 degree weather so far. The little features--like the fleece-lined upper zipper, so it doesn't chafe at the mouth/chin---are the best. I'm 5'2", and the medium comes to my mid-thighs. If you're a tall gal, you may want to consider this when purchasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from . . You have to buy it . . for REAL! . . no joke. By far the BEST coat out in the market as I own many many many. ,,I also have the shorter version of this. The inside of this coat is especially the BESTpart. So padded, soft and molding. You will pick this up every time you go out. I live in Buffalo, and wore it in 9 degree F weather. It kept me so warm and comfortable. Trust me, you will not be disappointed it. True to size. LOVE LOVE . . worth every little cent. I loved it so much I had to buy both the long and short version. I feel like I'm neglecting the other 30 coats I own in my closet! Moooooooosejaw rocks!!!! Getting ready to use my REWARD points for some FREE stuff : )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome for winter How did I ever survive winter before this coat? It's so incredibly warm. It's like wearing a sleeping bag but better looking. My wool coats just sit there in my closet because this coat is so cozy and great. I love the fleece lining, the fleecy pockets, and the length of the coat (great for sitting down on cold surfaces outdoors). The hood and removable faux fur trim are really warm too. This coat does look a little bulky on me, but I'm fine with looking a little like the Michelin man because this coat is so nice and toasty. It would have been nice, though, if this coat were water-resistant... it tends to look damp after walking through a snowstorm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Coat - minor tweaks As others have mentioned - this is a great coat. Also as others have mentioned. NO thumb loops which was a major selling point. However, when you go on Mountain Hardware's website - they don't mention thumb loops int he description so this might be a Moosejaw error (sorry Moosejaw). I love how warm the coat is and I love the hood. If I could make some minor tweaks - I would love for the coat to be about 1 inch longer. I wanted the coat to cut just above my knee and it is really mid thigh. I am 5'6" as a reference. Also I would love for the coat to be a bit more tapered around the waist to provide contour and style. Otherwise I love it and love the color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most practical, stylish & weatherproof down jacket on the market The only one in a near second is Marmot Venus jacket. The Mountain Hardwear downtown coat is better because of the long length; removable hood and inner elastic wrist liners. The only negative is the tag description says ‘thumbholes’ in the inner wrist liners; but I don’t see them The inside Velbora Raschel lining, fleece lined chinguard, and tear resistant 30-denier Micro Ripstop shell are my favorite ‘minor’ details that make a ‘major’ impact. Also North Face’s Metropolis parka details sound good to the inexperienced outdoors person but don’t do justice in the elements as the Mountain Hardwear downtown coat does.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm, comfortable, and cute I really like this winter coat. It is super warm in below freezing temps. I am 5'6" 120#, I wear a small. The arms could be a couple of inches longer and it would be perfect, as it is they hit at my wrists. The fit is somewhat straight (not too flared) and relaxed, but not like a sleeping bag. The length is great too-it hits at mid-thigh so your rear is covered but it's not so long that you can't lift your legs to walk in it. The hood fits wells and has quality faux fur. The material is soft on the outside and there is an amazing velvety fabric on the upper body inside so it doesn't chill you to put it on.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing something Bought this coat based on the reviews being mostly great. But this coat has 3 big drawbacks. ,,1) Needs to have snaps on front as an option to zipping ,,2) Needs to have drawstring at bottom of coat so cold wind doesn't blow up into coat (as it does now),,3) Is not windproof,,I think this coat is not as warm as it promises to be. I was going to return it but needed it right away. I wouldn't suggest this coat if you live in a windy area. ,,Pros:,,1) The fleece inside - just makes it soft. Not really adding to any warmth. ,,2) I do like the cuffs inside the sleeves.,,3) Is a "packable" coat - stores really small. Can squish coat into a small space.,,,,Hope this helps!,,,,Lori - NY
