The Mountain Hardwear Men’s Nilas Jacket is a heavy-duty jacket that is ready as can be for the chilly days of the year. By chilly days, I really mean really cold days; I just don’t like talking about the cold a lot, especially during summer. Man, I really like summer, a lot. The outdoors are still game though, even in the winter, if you have one of these Mountain Hardwear coats that feature front handwarmer pockets, and internal stash pockets big enough to fit water bottles. A low profile, insulated hood does its job keeping your head warm, while baffle construction of the jacket itself ensure maximum loft and warmth for the rest of your body. Winter’s gonna be fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket, Crappy Zipper I've had this jacket for almost two seasons now. I use this for skiing, Mountaineering, and just walking around in town. keeping it short, I really like this jacket. It keeps me warm in negative temps with no problems. But the only thing I don't like at all with it is the zipper. It is really hard to zip up with gloves on and it gets caught REALLY easily. I'm not sure why they went with a waterproof zipper on a non-waterproof jacket. I have coats that cost half the price with better zippers. if they wanted to go with total a windproof jacket, they should have used a regular zipper with a windscreen behind it. All around a great jacket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Warm + Lightweight functional and packable I needed a big-daddy of down jackets, without the bulk of a parka. My requirement was warmth, lightness, and mobility, without breaking the bank. The Nilas hits on all three points, being warm with its 850 rated down and lighter weight. The down hood makes a big difference spending a few hours in the Missouri wilderness making landscape photos, and I can concentrate on making pictures rather than how cold my cranium is. With a thermal base layers and a fleece on underneath this thing is good well into the - degrees. Its also light, which is a factor I considered since I carry 30 pounds of gear, I still had plenty of lower torso coverage to prevent heat from escaping from my core.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent jacket for the real Canadian winter! I usually don't climb mountain, but last week (end of January) the temperature dropped below -20 to -25°C. Moreover, you can add humidity and a wind factor. Honestly, my freezer was warmer than the temperature felt outside.,,Well, I was walking outside downtown Montreal wearing this coat with a long sleeves t-shirt only underneath and I was perfectly warm.,,It is light, comfortable and really warm! No cool breeze could get through anywhere when you squeeze the cords correctly. Wow.,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Jacket I have this down sweater and have used it very hard- lotsa pancake syrup on the sleeves ground in with some oil from under the truck- a few snags and pulls on the stitching- still keeping me warm and comfy and no loss of feathers-so I just ordered another one in Deep Space- these jackets wash up great (dry with two tennis balls !!!) and pack like nothing else- treat yourself to one- R,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and lightweight, hugs like grandma used to I was debating between this jacket and the Volant jacket made by Feathered Friends. I've loved everything FF makes, but I wanted something that I might wear in more regular situations as well, not just during the climb. I don't like the look of the Volant, so I decided to try the Nilas.,,,,This jacket is very lightweight, very durable, and very comfortable. I took it to the summit of Mt. Rainier, where it held up nicely to 50MPH winds and below-0 temperatures. I had layers on underneath, but felt like this jacket did a great job blocking the wind and staying warm. It comes with its own pack and smushes down to nothing. It also makes a great pillow in the tent. ,,,,The cuffs continue to hold as tight as they did on day one, and the thumb holes are a nice touch to ensure a good snug fit. The hood fits over all helmets I've worn with it, and pulls tightly around your face when needed. I'm a big fan of this jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No words to describe My ex says this thing feels like you're wearing a cloud. She's right, except it's actually warm instead of like the stratosphere. This thing balls up into a 6" sphere, and weights basically nothing. Wore it during the worst 3 storms Rainier has seen in the last few years, and nary I was cold. Will buy this again if mine ever shows wear and tear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly Light! This jacket is exceptionally light and very warm. Packs down to just about the size of a football, so it fits nicely into any pack. Did I mention how light it is?
