"Probably not the best for winter expeditions"

A salesperson at an outdoor store recommended this jacket for my upcoming mountaineering trip (so of course I came home and ordered it from moosejaw instead of buying it in the store). The jacket is very lightweight and compresses small. It fits over several layers (I wore it over two baselayers and a thin microfleece) and under heavy layers (I wore it under my heavy fleece, down jacket, and gortex). It was below freezing temps so I had to wear lots of layers. I will keep this jacket for day hikes (for the windproofness), but I don't think I would take it on another sub-freezing temperature mountaineering or backpacking trip.

Living in Michigan the weather can be, well, temperamental...to say the least. I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into with this jacket...but I took a leap and I'm happy I did. The outer is super smooth - almost soft and very reflective. The inside is thinly lined and soft, making it actually quite warm (for a glorified windbreaker). I choose this jacket as I've taken to running at night and it can get chilly. I also love kayaking and SUP and like the idea of it being water repellent. Apparently the soft lining will wick the moisture away from you and disperse it evenly across the outer material to evaporate - keeping you warm and dry. It's also super flattering and cute.
