The Marmot Men's Minimalist Jacket is a Gore-Tex Paclite jacket for the backpacker that needs lightweight, waterproof protection. The Minimalist is light and simple, yet strong enough to block wind and rain (even snow!) from ruining your trek from camp to camp. The zippered hand pockets and chest pocket secure small items close by when trudging through a down pour, with storm flaps and a water resistant zipper for extra protection on the inside. Cinch the hood and hem down with elastic draw cords and wrap your wrists with Velcro straps to prevent the wind from blowing the jacket and hood all willy-nilly. As you heat up from your hiking exertions, open the pit zips to let in a bit of fresh air right at the core.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great year round jacket. Highly waterproof and breaths well. I purchased this jacket last fall for all the rain we were having and ended up working great in a layering system for winter. The material is made with Gore-tex which produces a highly waterproof yet breathable jacket. The pit zips allow you to stay cool while shedding summer rain on the trail. It also works well blocking cold winter winds when layered over a fleece. It actually block wind so well I use it as a motorcycle jacket. It can be compressed small enough to fit in the chest pocket, which makes it great for carrying in a backpack. I recommend this product to anyone looking for a year round rain jacket. Plus Marmot has a lifetime guarantee!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I just purchased this jacket so I have not been able to get out and use it in the rain and snow just yet. But I did want to mention the size and fit of this jacket. It fits a bit slimmer then I had anticipated, which might make layering in the winter snugger then I would like it to be. Otherwise I think this is the best deal on the market for a Gore-Tex Paclite rain jacket. The hood is a good size for a casual around-town jacket. The construction of the jacket is very solid, Marmot makes a beautiful product. If you want a gore-tex paclite jacket but dont want to spend close to 300 bucks on an Arcteryx or 250 on a patagonia, this is the way to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile Gore-Tex Shell I have owned this jacket for 2 years and I find it is thicker than other rain shells. This allows the jacket to be used in more weather conditions than just rain. It has pit zips for ventilation when you're hot. I have sailed to the Bahamas Ft. Lauderdale and it worked flawlessly in the rough sea conditions. I recently took it to New Zealand on the Routeburn Great Walk and it was money. I also used this as a ski jacket at Loveland, CO and Mt. Rose, Lake Tahoe in Jan/Feb. As long as you have the proper layers underneath, I find this shell to be awesome all year round. I’m 6’4” 190lbs and own the XL, it is a regular fit, not slim/athletic. Adjustable hood is crap, the Velcro is weak. 4.5/5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Minimalist Jacket The Marmot Minimalist Jacket is an awesome light weight, water proof Gore-tex shell. It is VERY thin and should be paired with a mid-layer for colder weather. It is waterproof and acts as a great rain jacket. ,,,,This is a must have if you are going to be on the trail for a few days, especially if you live in a climate that gets a lot of rain. I bring this jacket on every trip and have had to use it a few times for rain. I actually use this jacket a lot at home as a rain jacket. ,,,,There are not a lot of extra features or pockets, hence the "minimalist" title. ,,,,It is also not very breathable since it has the Gore-tex membrane. If you are hiking in the rain and it is warm out, make sure to use the ventilation zippers under the arms to help circulate airflow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Jacket Very happy with this purchase. Got it in 'Team Red' and it looks sick. The fit is great, looks slim but is big enough to wear as an outer layer which is what it's meant for obviously. Keeps me completely dry of course, the adjustable wrist openings are a nice touch as I use it for biking mostly. The only thing is that the hood doesn't quite fit over my helmet, but zipped all the way up the jacket is enough to keep comfy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice light outer layer I like how marmot cut straight to the chase with this one. It's light, exceptionally waterproof, yet has the perfect amount of pockets for carrying what you need. Nothing gimmicky about it. I am 6 foot and 170lbs, pretty average build and a medium fits perfectly. A lot of people say you need to buy a size up from what your typical size is but I have not found that to be the case. Great jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hard Shell This was exactly what I wanted. A great rain jacket that actually breathes. Gore-Tex is a truly amazing technology and this about as well priced as you can find it. The jacket fits on the slim side, so if you want to use it in winter with layers, you probably want to go up a size. Marmot makes great outwear and this item is no exception. Get product, great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the water out and heat in Works great in the rain! I used it for hiking Rainier and pressure washing on a rainy day. Stayed completely dry! Gets a little warm though, even with the pit zips. Just make sure you layer properly when you have it on, don't underestimate it's heat. Also, gore-tex has a certain smell to it, which can resemble an odd B.O. smell, so just be aware.
