Rated 5 out of 5 by from best stove I purchased this stove after using a jetboil for a year. I brought it up to the BWCA for a 6 day trip with a friend and was amazed at the job it did. first off it is super compact and light-great for backpackers that are going on long trips. this stove is really fuel efficient which is very important when going camping for a long period of time. it is very easy to set up and ignite. this stove cooked all of my food very well and is much better than my jetboil. it simply is the best compact stove used for longer trips and great for cooking for up to a small group of campers. have a fantastic time using this stove on your next adventure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 22 years and going! I have purchased every piece of gear for bike touring, backpacking, camping, etc. Every piece of gear base eventually had to be replaced: some pieces of gear several times. I've been through 6 tents, 5 sleeping bags, 3 backpacks, 2 pot sets, 3 sets of bike panniers... you name it. Only one item has persisted since my teenage years: the MSR Whisperlite International. It has been around the world, used primarily with automotive fuel for consecutive days (on a few year long trips and also multi-month trips) and it has been 100% reliable throughout that time. I think about it regularly in wonderment at how something could last so long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anyone giving this less than 5 stars is basing 5 stars on some product that doesn't exist Able to burn just about anything, the whisperlight international is THE stove for approaching and summiting the worlds tallest mountains. People say butane is better for summits. Wrong! Liquid fuel, for better or worse, is what will keep you alive up past 7000 meters. The shaker jet mechanism for cleaning is idiot proof and depending on what you're burning, you shouldn't have to take apart the system very often (a fifteen minute messy process). American Coleman fuel, white gas, is not available near most of the world's great peaks is any serious quantities. What there is plenty of is dirty kerosene, diesel fuel, and moonshine. The MSR can burn all three.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MSR stove for any kind of serious backcountry usage. This is a great stove and I would only buy an MSR stove for any kind of serious backcountry usage. The stove doesn't simmer in the sense of your kitchen stove (at all), but it's not too bad compare to the torch-like power of other MSR stoves (good tip from SandyBeach to use low pressure). But great for all conditions, boils water FAST and still can cook normal food on it too. Very light, field maintainable and you can be sure that MSR stands behind it's products -- I've got lots of their gear and have only good things to say about their products and customer service! And no, I don't work for them... just a big fan! Great stove!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, easy to use and efficient I found it extremely easy to use (duh), and clean! I found it easy to simmer, after many frustrating failed attempts. It's critical to pre-heat it correctly for simmering. Also, I micro-managed the bottle pressure, which at times proved fairly useful. ,, Love: lightweight, and seemingly efficient on fuel (in one week, using it for dinner, hot water and breakfast daily, I barely finished off a 33oz bottle of white gas). ,, Unlove : after closing the valve and letting the gas burn off the stove, there's always fuel left in the line that liked to leak out when detaching stove from the bottle. I found the shape of the stove awkward when trying to pack it away. ,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The golden standard for backcountry stoves The most reliable stove I have used in the backcountry. Very light, packable and super efficient at boiling water. When something does go wrong the stove is very simple and is super easy to take apart and maintain. The one weak spot that could be improved is where the fuel control knob attaches to the pump assembly. There is a brass ring that screws onto a plastic fitting. When reassembling this attachment, if the brass piece is cross threaded or threaded wrong with the plastic piece, it is very easy to damage the pump and unfortunately is one of the few possible problems with the stove that is not field reparable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bomb-proof.... I've had this stove now for about 6 years or so, and have to say that it's simple to use, easy to clean, and very solidly built...even after stumbling out of tent in the middle of the night to heed the call of nature, and then accidentally kicking it down an 8' ledge of canadian shield granite. While I've only ever used white gas in it,I have a friend with one that took the same stove to do relief work in Haiti after the earthquake, and used gasoline in it with no problems. My only complaint is that it doesn't "simmer" as well I'd like, but the best workaround is just pay closer attention to the meal when using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stove a must buy! I have had mine for at least 20 years.Back when I first got it I lived in a tent more than my home.I have never done more to it than changed o rings and cleaned it.It is made mostly for boiling water but i have also cooked a lot of different things on it.In order to not burn your food you must keep the heat down low an stir a lot.I also have the dragonfly model but I really like this one better. It is a lot quieter than the dragonfly. Also my dragonfly that is only 6 years old needs to go in for service. Not saying they arnt good stoves but the WisperLite has never failed me once. The shaker jet is the best.
