The MSR Dragonfly Stove is a backcountry cooking workhorse. It is capable of handling a variety of fuels and reliable enough to be the only stove you'll need for years and years. My buddy Geoff, has one of these and brings it on all of our trips. His signature dishes are pasta in the summer and melted snow in the winter. Geoff isn't the most handy guy either, but has no trouble with maintenance and has had his Dragonfly running at peak efficiency since I've known him.

FEATURES of the MSR Dragonfly Stove

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When you need to simmer.. I own a Soto stove and I love it. However it does not have a full simmering option and cooking gourmet meals is pretty important to me. I purchased this strictly for that capability. I would say it has met all my expectations since I already know that MSR is a great company that produces quality products. I do not have any issues with this stove besides the fact that it is a little bulky when packed up, but that is nit picking at this point. I have definitely over boiled a few times and varieties of liquids have soaked the stove by it always turns back on within a few minutes of wiping and air drying it. Very reliable and a workhorse.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works. It also takes a little practice. The stove is for a family of 3. My wife's a chef, and our daughter is currently 5 months old. So our needs are boil, simmer, and heating up bottles every few hours in very cold temperatures. A hungry screaming baby outdoors, or at a campsite is no fun for anybody. So when it's time to light it up we needed something reliable, quick, and windproof. The stove worked every time. We initially went through more fuel than expected just do to inexperience. Finding the right setting for the flame control valve, and keeping the fuel bottle pressurized all takes practice. We paired the stove with MSR's 1.6L and 2L pots. We still haven't managed the best solution for where it goes in the pack. It folds up nicely, but the fuel line makes it awkward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy but Worth It This is the greatest stove for cooking. Too heavy to use to heat water for backpacking meals–not an alcohol stove. However, if you want to prepare a killer shore-lunch or a gourmet meal in the backcountry this is the stove for you.,,,,Sometimes my friends scoff at me as they pull out their coleman, but by the end of the cook off my pancakes turnout better and my fish are crispy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Efficient, excellent flame control and sturdy! I use this stove often and in extreme weather it seems as though that's when its performance peaks! Its control is amazing, including a full simmer option and a very sturdy base but it comes with a fairly large weight cost due to its liquid fuel canister. A regular canister has done me for a week proving how efficient the stove really is. Although this stove is not the lightest or the smallest, it is worth the extra weight! If you're looking for a sturdy, well controlled efficient stove, the MSR Dragonfly is an amazing option!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite liquid fuel stove yet! Finally a backpacking stove that I can use with larger camp cookware that one just blowtorch a single spot in the center of a pot or pan!,,,,Very nice flame spread to evenly heat my GS camp cookware. Pot supports will hold a GSI 5L pot full of water with no issues on weight/stability. And simmer function will go so low that I can melt butter without burning it. A single 20oz bottle will last me well over a week with fuel to spare. I've used it at home cooking every meal on it with regular pots and pans for over two weeks on a single 20oz bottle.,,,,When you have the stove at its maximum output it can be loud, but consider this is intended for someone who may be trying to cook on a glacier above 17,000 feet in 40mph winds and that noise is music to your ears because you know it ain't blowing out!,,,,Doesn't fold down as compact as other stoves due to the extra regulator to adjust flame output, but its still totally worth it in my opinion. Does not come with bottle as pictured.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Backcountry Stove, Also Known As the Turbine This stove is always my go to for any trip in the backcountry. It is very easy to start, it stays lit, and has excellent flame control. It is well built, has taken a beating, and will run on multiple fuels. With that said, I do have to say it is incredibly loud while at full blast. I do not count that as a detractor, but it must be said about this stove. Looking for a reliable, easy to use and control stove, this is the unit for you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stove This is one of my favorite LF stoves. Speaking as a disable and former backpacker, I now collect all kinds of stoves. The Dragonfly seems to be reliable and will not let you down. As all of you know, MSR stoves' fuel line like this one has, is irritating due to its minimum flexibility, I'm sure MSR know what they're doing. I like the unique look, and heat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frickin Awesome This thing sounds like a jet plane when it's fired up but it does the job in even the worst conditions. Evenly dispersed heat making cooking quick and easy, boils water in a snap, and is low maintenance. Kinda tough to take apart to clean but that's life. Perfect stove for cooking for multiple people when considering weight and fuel economy. Buy one today!
