LA SPORTIVA FIT GUIDE and INFO

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOES:
• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOE FIT SYSTEMS:
• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

HIKING, BACKPACKING and MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS:
• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shoe for any type of climbing Not only do they edge perfectly, they also have perfect rear ends for heel hooking. I mainly use them in the gym but they also excel during outdoor climbing on everything from granite to sandstone to brick and concrete buildings. I have pretty long and narrow feet but these shoes fit me perfectly. Sizing wise I would go a little smaller than you actually need as, in my experiance, they do stretch a wee bit after extended use. I wear a 10.5 street shoe but I wear a 42 in these and they are perfect, albeit quite snug. The only "problem" I've ever had with these shoes is the velcro straps being ridiculously long but it's nothing a pair of scissors can't fix.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A leather shoe with the edging potential of the Anasazi but a narrower toe box I'm a fan of the 5.10 Anasazi great edging power; the gym clearing smell of the shoes, I'm not so psyched on. The Katanas are a lot like the Anasazis: flat last, sensitive yet firm rubber, a great pointed toe for pockets, and a suction-like heal. They're also leather, which means good bye stank! The last-same as the TC Pros-is a little narrower than that of the Anasazi. The result: outside toes are a little more curled, pushing my big toe up against the inside of my shoe. If the Anasazi's a little wide, try these. They aren't perfect. I am more hesitant to smear, perhaps due to the slightly more aggressive toe curl. And the heal cups feel a little less secure when hooking than the Anasazi.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shoe, get em tight! After months of wearing mismatching shoes, because each pair had holes....I finally picked up new kicks! I got em tight to boulder and sport climb. My other shoes have stretched and I can wear them comfortably for awhile, so I wanted something tight and sporty. Enter the Katana. After 3 climbing days, I like em. Definitely tight and a good fit. They look slightly down-turned when you hold em, but when you put them on they hold your foot in a more downturned position. They feel very precise, stable and sticky. The only drawback I've noticed so far is that the midsole is kinda slippery. I think it just needs to be scuffed up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent and colourful climbing shoes La Sportiva Men's Katana Shoe has a great fit on the heel, but taking other reviewer's advice I went for 2 shoe sizes smaller than my street shoes and got shoes which were too small (my toes are all bunched up at the end). While I am sure the shoes will stretch they have a rubber support lining at the front which will inhibit the stretching. Also, there was a manufacturing defect of glue stuck across the front left and also the base. The velcro straps make the shoe easy to put on and take off, but no good for outside use as the straps are too long and will fray and curl and would need to be shortened (cut).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaks in nicely, edges like a boss (6 months in) These are my second pair of shoes had the LaSportiva tarantulas first. The first thing I noticed about these is that they were pretty sensitive than my first shoe but after I got use to them at broke them in I realized how well they stick. They make toeing in on the tiniest jibs feel effortless. Would definitely recommend this shoe for someone coming out of there first pair and looking for something a little more technical and not too aggressive. Oh yeah I also use these for sport, boulder and gym.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Semi-Aggressive Shoes These are fantastic shoes for pushing the grade. If you've graduated from the 5.8's and 5.9's and are looking for a new shoe to help you with everything from 5.10's - 5.12's, these are the shoes for you. They are best on vertical to moderately overhanging routes. Of course they will work great on the rest but if sized correctly, they are a bit uncomfortably on less than vertical routes and could be more aggressive on seriously overhanging routes. The best thing I like about these is that they fit low volume feet like mine. I cut off the ends of the straps and I don't have extra velcro getting caught in the rope. I wear a size 8.5-9 street shoe and got these in 38.5 and its perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent shoe I got these because I really wanted a shoe as good as my prior shoes, which were Katanas. I've really liked La Sportiva shoes so far. I've had a couple of pairs of Mythos, resoled multiple times and still going strong. I switched to these because I wanted the on/off speed of velcro. The velcro is very convenient, and I like that the straps go in opposite directions so you can easily get a very tight fit. My old Katanas weren't busted or overly worn out, I just wanted something while those got resoled. They're nice and sticky, and I like the slightly downturned toe for bouldering. Having the entire heel coated in rubber is also useful for odd foot placements. I highly recommend these shoe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all-around shoe I don't climb outdoors because I live near Detroit where everything is perfectly flat. That disclaimer out of the way, these shoes rock. I wear a 13 in street shoes and sized down to a 44.5. They fit great, nice and tight but not painful. They fit my foot shape very well with a narrower heel but wider forefoot. These shoes improved my climbing overnight. They edge like crazy, can smear with the best of them, and stick like glue on the tiniest toeholds. Plus, they look sweet. Do yourself a favor and put these Italian stallions on your feet!
