La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boot for most. I purchased a pair of these from Moosejaw about 10 years ago. They are not the current iteration but rather the ones sans rand and grey midsole. I have medium to almost wide feet so not ideal "La Sportiva" geometry. Break in was a ball buster but after a solid 2 months of daily wear I got to the point where I could wear them all day-11 hour work day-and not be in pain. Fast forward 10 years and they've almost completely broke in for me. The reason I like Sportiva is they are old school Italian made boots that last forever. Breaking any of them in is a chore for me but once the leather conforms to my feet there is nothing better footwear wise.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all purpose boot for narrow feet. I have a long narrow foot with a high arch and these boots fit well right out of the box. I tossed the factory suppied insoles (well not really, I kept them for show and tell) and replaced it with heat moldable ones to support my feet. I also moved up to a thicker sock to "fill" the boot and increase my ankle volume. I have thin ankles and the upper lacing system has to be fully cranked to get a secure fit.

So far I've logged about 10 blister free miles ranging from stream hopping to class three scrambling. Can't wait for the full break in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stu Pendous! No, not the product - me! In fact, Stu Pendous is my screen name. Perhaps you've seen my latest movie. If not, don't worry. It'll be out on VHS as soon as they bring that format back. . (Back to review ...) Stu Pendous! Great boot. Great fit. And I'm prone to fits. Great delivery. Better than Mel Gibson in Hamlet. Perfect boot for scrabblin' around here north of 60 and should get me plenty of miles with the girl of my dreams, that subalpine maiden, Ellie Vation. Am thinking of buying another pair just so I can experience the wonder all over again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OOOOOOO Just as comfortable as my custom mold hockey-skates!!! The greatness with these boots is that while they have a full metal shank, they also have a bit of "rocker" built in. So that means it's not like walking on a pair of ski-boots. They hold my foot perfectly, with plenty of arch support while allowing for full room in the instep area. The heel is snug but not tight, and the lacing system is as good as I have found since the ASOLO pulley system. ,,For support and comfort these are THE boot! And that's coming from a 6'3" 230pound kindergarten teacher who is on his feet in these bad boys 9 hours a day every day!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Combat-Ready You need to hump about 20-30 miles in them before getting serious. You need to break them in and they need to break you in a little; but once you do, you'll have a footgasm each and every time wearing them. ,,,,I humped all over Afghanistan's Hundu Kush in them, and while others were changing wet socks every five kilometers I would stand there and eat MREs in my dry, warm "foot duvets". The tongue comes out for easy drying/cleaning purposes which is nice and the tough soles don't chew up from kickin' rocks. The sharp heel is ideal for tough descents as well.,,,,These boots are impenetrable, and if the snow gets a bit deeper, throw on a pair of gaiters and life will be grand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Burly boot, can be a tough break in process This boot is stiff! The break in period took about a month and a half of constant wear, but once that was through these boots felt amazing. They're stiff, protective, and durable. Very durable. The outer boot is bombproof. The glue is holding, water stays out (for the most part), and, surprisingly, the sole hasn't worn down much. My only issue with these boots is the inner leather lining disintegrates! About two months into the season I had to get a piece of leather glued to the heel area because I'd worn all the way through the liner. After a season the inner lining on the cuff of the boot is completely gone!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They're okay... Finding ice climbing crampon compatible mountaineering boots for women has been tough. None seem to fit right but I decided to take these home and try them out. I love the boot, it's weight and durability seemed like I could really kick some serious ice in them. However, even after an exchange, I just couldn't find the right fit. These boots didn't support my arch as much as I needed and were either too big or too small, even in the half sizes. Again, though, they are men's and I am most certainly not a man. I recommend for men but not worth the effort for the ladies. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A versatile leather boot for backpacking, mountianeering, and even vertical ice. I use this boot for backpacking, mountaineering, and climbing vertical ice. Although many people prefer the performance and warmth that a plastic boot offers in the snow, I think the Makalu is a good choice if you're only going to have one pair of boots (like me!).
These boots are completely water proof, unless of course the water comes in over the ankle cuff. The entire upper is made from one piece of leather, so there are no seams to spring leaks.
The boot is extremely rigid, mainly because of the full steel shank. While this probably isn't necessary for warm weather hill walking, the steel shank provides the support necessary to make these boots fully crampon-compatible (there's
