The Nepal S.A. Ice Axe by Grivel is a non-technical ice axe ideal for trekking, classic snow climbs, rental programs, and schools. The carbon-steel head features a classically inclined pick with teeth along half its length. The body and pick are hot, drop forged in one piece, then the stamped adze is welded to it. The Ergal shaft surpasses UIAA norms for strength and durability; it is coated with black, epoxy-based paint. Version with shaft S.A.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Harmonics, Best "Bite" With an Ice Axe, it is all about the "bite" and the harmonics. I own Stubai, SMC, Black Diamond, Camp, and of course Grivel. I have been a mountaineer for 40 years, so I have a bit of a collection, plus, my home in Alaska is built on a bit of a hill, and try my gear out let's just say in my "yard." Most of the gear never makes it to the pack. Okay, of the 8 general Ice Axes I have used over the years, including my Grivel Monte Blanc, which is not your Grandfather's Wood Ice Ace, the Nepal has a very, very unique bite, it thinks it is a shark. And the harmonics are the best out of every ice axe I have ever used, including my Stubai and my old school wood axe. They are making a lot of ice axes out of aluminum these days, and if you want to communicate vibration through your entire skeleton, slam something hard with an aluminum stick and feel which tooth you need to see a dentist about. 40+ years, this is my favorite general Ice Axe.
