The Five Ten Men's Quantum Climbing Shoe. The iconic Anasazi Lace-up has made a QUANTUM leap into the future. The new last has a downturned toe with a low volume heel cup that enhances fit and sticks to heel hooks like duct tape. Features include a downturned toe, precision fit lace closure and a durable Cowdura upper. The Quantum features Mystique rubber-the ultimate combination of friction, precision and durability. For 5.10 fanatics the Quantum is a down-turned Pink.
I liked this shoe when I first got it, but as time went on I just found that it wasn't that awesome. Maybe it just didn't fit my foot that well, but I didn't trust toe-ing down on anything that much and the shoe always slipped off on heel hooks. I got a size down, but maybe I should have gone lower.
After trying on some other 5.10s and a pair of Scarpa's I didn't think I would find an aggressive shoe that didn't leave tons of dead space in the heel, but the low volume heel on this shoe is perfect. It literally suctions to my foot to the point where I need to pry them off. I previously had the La Sportiva Mantis size 11. They were my first shoes and were sized a bit big so I climbed with socks on. My street shoe is 10.5-11 and I wear a 10.5 in the Quantum. Honestly, I will get these resoled until they can't be anymore and then I'll buy a new pair of these. Pretty comfortable after a week or two, but don't expect them to be a "wear all day" shoe.
These shoes are a very great boulder/sport/single pitch climbing shoe. I use them whenever i need to Front pointing in limestone pockets, or that extra bit of downturn toe for past vertical climbing. The mystic rubber is very sticky and seems to be a bit more durable than the standard C4 rubber. Street Shoes size I wear a 9.5/10 , i got these in a 10.5. They are not that painful to wear, but they would start nagging if you kept them on all day long. Once they are fully broken in, they become a magical shoe. Also, 5.10 re-did the heel cup on these and it fits so much better than the sloppy VCS heel. I recommend this for a performance shoe.(for a intermediate to advanced climber)
