Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just don't get it wet This is a bright little lantern, perfect for hanging inside any tent. Great for camping, though an ounce-conscious backpacker would find little use for this if he/she has already packed a headlamp. It has long battery life; I found it particularly useful to leave it on in my tent so I could find it after a night of drinking keg beer in the woods, instead of stumbling around in the darkness and ending up in the wrong tent. I also take this canoeing and it illuminates my solo tent enough to where I can read easily at night. It's malfunctioning after it took on some water last year and now it's in permanent strobe-mode or blinks intermittently at best. :(,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of gear I received this as a gift and love it. It's compact and lightweight, perfect for long backpacking trips, and is also unobtrusive and easy to use. It throws a surprisingly bright light for its size, definitely enough to read by in a tent or do your chores. (I hate cap-lights and headlamps. You blind someone every time you turn your head.) Its slight weight allows you to hang it in the tent with ease, without having to worry about it pulling down the fabric or the poles. This lantern doesn't look impressive from a picture, but it is a cool piece of gear that is exceptionally functional. We take it on all our backpacks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for (long) weekend trips but bring extra batteries for longer trips! Batteries died on the 4th night of our week-long trip, which was disappointing. We were using it 3-4 hours a night on average on the lowest setting and I was expecting a fresh set of batteries to last the entire trip. By comparison my Petzl Tikka Plus headlamp, which runs on 3 AAA batteries, was used 5-6 hours a night and lasted through the entire trip on one set of batteries. BD is going to have to work to improve the efficiency of their lanterns/LEDs. Bottom line: this is a great compact/lightweight lantern for (long) weekend trips. If you're going to be out there longer, bring extra batteries or step up to the Apollo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small and light enough that you'll actually bring it with you, full of features for the price. When traveling light, a lantern is a luxury. A headlamp, however, is a necessity. I look at this lantern as headlamp insurance, since it produces enough light to keep the headlamps off in the tent and around a stove. With lithium batteries, this thing is crazy light. Bonus points for the integrated clip on the top for easy hanging, little feet for stability on uneven surfaces around the kitchen, replaceable batteries without the mess of chargers, and the ability to dim the output for even longer life. If you're going to bring extra batteries for your headlamp, might as well put them in this thing and bring it too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great buy.. but CHECK THE DIMENSIONS! After going off of the other reviews it seemed like it would be more than bright enough for our needs for a large group camping. I was incorrect. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a great little lantern that if your alone, or only with a few people, does a great job of casting a bit of light to see the back of a pick up, or cards on a picnic table. Its number one use is hanging from the top of your tent and lighting up the entire thing with ease. Just be cautious if your looking for something to brighten up a larger area for a few more people, this is not the lantern your looking for. But its small size and light weight make it perfect to serve the purposes I stated above.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Broke after 1 night in the Rain I love the dimming feature of this lantern, and the compactability, but now the 'on' button won't stay compressed, so this lantern only stays lit for about 15 seconds. I'm blaming that entirely on the rain, but even after drying it out (by use of multiple silica packets) my lantern won't stay lit.,,I have hung it up inside my tent by the handle, and it compresses down to fit nicely in my 13 L daypack. It's a great lantern, over-all, but doesn't stand up to getting wet. If you're going to be somewhere that it absolutely won't rain, this lantern is bright, compact, and the perfect size.,,If you're going somewhere cold, wet, and suchlike, this lantern might not be the one for you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from cool design, but has some flaws... I really wanted to love this lantern. It is extremely durable, the top hook/loop is ingenious, and the light output is good for its size. The problem? It has some issues with batteries. I'll put a fresh set of 4 AAA batteries in it, use it for several hours, and then it mysteriously won't turn on, or when it does it will flash repeatedly without turning on. Sometimes it will mysteriously turn itself off as well.,,I'm still curious as to why there are no high quality, compact solar lanterns on the market yet. The Luci light ($15) is now my lantern of choice, but I can already tell that it won't last more than a year. I'm excited to test the Snow Peak Hozuki lantern, looks like it might be stellar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tiny in size with a HUGE amount of light. One of the best outdoor products i have ever owned. I have used every type of camping light money can buy. Black Diamond destroys the competition. I am saving up to buy the bigger one, the only lighting i will be using in the outdoor is made by Black Diamond, read up on this company and then and only then will you realize how big time they are. A true "gear" company that cuts not corners in quality. Extremely high priced stuff that if it goes on sale you have to get one and earn some moosejaw points in the process. The future of outdoor lights start with this mini latern.
