I was skeptical about this light before I bought it. But it is perfect to hang in tent getting ready to crash. It compliments your headlamp and works great. Light and small so takes up little room in your pack.
This is the perfect stash item for multi-day hiking endeavors. It graciously illuminates my 2 person tent, and the spread of the light can be modified by sliding the bottom back up toward the top... to the closed position. This adjustment ability, plus the little fold-away hang hooks, make this light a must have for those who like to read or fiddle around while their companion likes to sleep (from experience).
Great lantern. Very light for backpacking and good battery life. You can get just about a full 24 hours from the batteries. Good lighting for the size of the lantern. The switch allows for good control of the amount of light which is helpful for saving battery life. Overall, very happy with this product and would buy again.
"Excellent light, could be slightly lighter"
This lantern is excellent. The light emitted is great for camping; whether in a tent or a car. The dimming mode is good to have if away for longer trips and don't want to carry an extra set of batteries. Which brings me to my one qualm about it... The lantern could be a little lighter. Don't get me wrong, the lantern itself is very light but when you add in the 4 AAA alkaline batteries, the weight is practically doubled.Overall, a great product by BD!
I received this as a gift and love it. It's compact and lightweight, perfect for long backpacking trips, and is also unobtrusive and easy to use. It throws a surprisingly bright light for its size, definitely enough to read by in a tent or do your chores. (I hate cap-lights and headlamps. You blind someone every time you turn your head.) Its slight weight allows you to hang it in the tent with ease, without having to worry about it pulling down the fabric or the poles. This lantern doesn't look impressive from a picture, but it is a cool piece of gear that is exceptionally functional. We take it on all our backpacks.
"Small and light enough that you'll actually bring it with you, full of features for the price."
When traveling light, a lantern is a luxury. A headlamp, however, is a necessity. I look at this lantern as headlamp insurance, since it produces enough light to keep the headlamps off in the tent and around a stove. With lithium batteries, this thing is crazy light. Bonus points for the integrated clip on the top for easy hanging, little feet for stability on uneven surfaces around the kitchen, replaceable batteries without the mess of chargers, and the ability to dim the output for even longer life. If you're going to bring extra batteries for your headlamp, might as well put them in this thing and bring it too.
Great lantern! The only minor problem is the on/off button can be hard to find by in the dark, a textured button would be helpful. Also, the light turns on at full brightness which is a tad annoying if you haven't adjusted to light. Overall, it's a great lamp and highly recommend it for camping/backpacking.
Cool little lantern, surprisingly bright for its size. Only take 4 AAA batteries, so that means I only have to carry two sizes of spare batteries in the pack. Its small size makes it easy to pack and doesn't weigh much.
Very cool light, here. Compact form factor, waterproof and TONS of light (in many fancy dimmable settings). The only hang-ups to me were the hooks you suspend it from (weird double-hook looks cool and works, but is a small hassle. Still much better than using a carabiner) and that I WISH you could direct the light into a flashlight form. That might sound silly being that it's a lantern, but they made it slick and collapsible - why not the extra 9 yards for a pop-off cap or something? Anyway, until they make that, this is the best ultra-light, all-around lightsource I've found.
