Black Diamond insists that their Stance Belay Hoody is perfect for when you're on belay in cold conditions.... I insist that it is perfect for a winter tailgate. We're both right, and it can handle anything in between. With the warmth and compressibility offered by 80g PrimaLoft insulation, this jacket can easily be taken with you on any adventure.... like waiting outside a Border's Bookstore all night before Black Friday only to realize that Borders has been out of business for a while. The Stance Belay Hoody's outer material is DWR (durable water repellent) treated to resist rain and the hood is adjustable and helmet-compatible. Just thought you'd like to know that.

"For the price (especially on sale), GET ONE"
After using the same belay puffy I got as a teenager for Christmas ~7 years ago (was more like a puffy-ish liner I cannibalized from its hardshell companion), I finally bought a 'proper puffy' after shopping around on a budget. For the price point, it can be pretty hard to beat, especially when it's on sale (something going on as write this review): compressable, warm (I wear this in chilly New England conditions around town with just a t-shirt underneath and I feel toasty; the beefy face mask/draft collar is excellent, too), water-repellant. Being slick-looking doesn't hurt, either. Granted, for the techy mountain geeks out there, it may fall short on being epically packable (think the Mountain Hardwear Hooded Ghost), as it doesn't pack into its own pocket, or come with a stock stuff sack. But the latter can be solved with a quick trip to your local outdoor retailer.NGreat jacket. Will be using this from mountains of NE to CA to China.
