Buyer, Footwear & Accessories

We're looking for an experienced retail Buyer to add to our merchandising team based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. Our buyers buy stuff. They also do fancier types of things like managing assigned product categories and executing Moosejaw's merchandising vision of both the online and brick-and-mortar businesses. Totally fancy. I think what I'm trying to get at is that our buyers are essential to what we do here. Otherwise we'd be selling air. And the hope for peace on earth. Kumbaya.

Categories that our Footwear and Accessories Buyer will oversee include all footwear and socks for men, women, and kids plus seasonal soft-lines accessories, such as gloves, hats, head and face protection, and other important gear you can wear. Think a lot of brands and a lot of SKUs. And additional responsibilities will be added TBD style because we're always growing, exploring and trying new things. We're really looking for a strong merchant, preferably with multi-channel retail experience, who loves Moosejaw and is familiar with the products we sell.

Planning experience and footwear category expertise is strongly desired, as well as a knack for finding the coolest shiz. We want someone who has a track record for staying ahead of technology and trends. I really thought the phrase was "tract record" until the world wide web told me otherwise. Candidates must be willing to travel to Moosejaw shops, industry shows and vendor line showings. This position reports to one of our Senior Buyers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Executing Moosejaw's merchandising vision of both the online and brick-and-mortar channels, and leading the growth of our outdoor gear business
  • Managing assigned product categories through strategic assortment planning by channel, beginning with a laser focus on Moosejaw's customer and the marketplace. Lasers can be used in many ways: laser tag, laser hair removal. But laser focus is pretty decent too.
  • Implementing leading-edge footwear assortments with the greatest focus on hike and climb, run/train, casual lifestyle, sandals, and winter footwear. Ensuring Moosejaw is well ahead of the market and trends, and perpetually developing new brands. We want to be like the coolest girl in high school during the 80's who first wore a banana clip.
  • Growing our seasonal soft-lines accessory business by enhancing the productivity and ROI on existing programs as well as finding new brands
  • Driving sales and margin growth in assigned product categories through seasonal and annual strategies
  • Managing receipt flow planning
  • Overseeing all financial aspects of the footwear & accessories business, including responsibility for leading and controlling the inventory and open to buy, sharing responsibility for forecasting sales, inventory and margins, managing pricing strategy, and ensuring appropriate levels of liquidity in the business at all times. Ensuring we are in position to meet or exceed both sales growth and profit margin objectives consistently in all channels of business.
  • Developing both full-price and off-price business strategies
  • Managing category, brand and cross-channel strategy. Executing big ideas.
  • Developing and overseeing seasonal conversions, as well as entry and exit strategies
  • Collaborating with and supporting the marketing team to execute Moosejaw's merchandising vision
  • Seasonally identifying the best brands, products, and business opportunities and building the plans/execution strategies necessary to bring them to market successfully
  • Building strong and mutually-productive partnerships with suppliers
  • Managing an assistant buyer to get the most and best, setting and communicating guiding goals, measuring accomplishments, diagnosing strengths, weaknesses and potential, delegating and developing
  • Collaborating with the merchandise planning team on allocation and replenishment
  • Doing really cool stuff that's worth telling your best friend, neighbor, ex-g/b friend and creepy uncle about

Things we'd like you to bring to the table:

  • 4 - 6 years of progressive work experience as a retail buyer/assistant buyer. Planning experience and multi-channel or internet retail experience is also required.
  • Knowledge of outdoor products, brands and industry is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in purchasing, merchandising, supply chain, finance or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, provide innovative solutions and develop business opportunities within the boundaries of prudent risk
  • Must possess strong retail financial and planning skills, as well as analytical, problem solving, strategic thinking and project management skills. Proven report generating abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Ability to cultivate strong vendor relationships is required
  • Must be a natural-born leader, which is way better than a natural-born killer. I made that whole natural-born thing up. I thought it lent itself well to my Woody Harrelson obsession.
  • Must be extremely self-motivated and able to exhibit out-of-the-box thinking to formulate new and creative ways of doing things, challenge assumptions, be comfortable with ambiguity, and have a future-oriented focus
  • Must have strong project management skills with the ability to foster a sense of urgency, be aggressive in pushing for deadlines and communicating issues, identify and overcome obstacles, as well as proactive in providing status updates on projects
  • Must exhibit a high degree of flexibility, maintain a solution-driven focus in challenging situations, adapt quickly to changing business requirements and be able to thrive amidst chaos

  • Casual dress code. Very casual. Like jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. I used the word sneakers instead of gym shoes because I like it better. Just in case you were wondering.
  • Coworkers who will laugh at your jokes. Even if they're just being polite.
  • Cubicle-free work environment. However, you are encouraged to build a fort around yourself using couch cushions, pillows and blankets from your mom's house.
  • Rock-paper-scissors contests, ping pong, birthday beer Fridays and good music. Oh and a karaoke initiation. No joke.
  • Amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear and Moosejaw products

How to Apply:
Email your resume and salary requirement to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please write "Quality Assurance Coordinator" in the subject line of your email so we know what you're applying for.

Customer Service Reps at Moosejaw.com

Customer Service Reps are our direct link to our customers. They provide super awesome customer service over the phone and through IM with internet orders and questions. Like such awesome service that our customers are tempted to tell at least six friends, one ex-girl/boyfriend, and two enemies about it.

We're looking for part-time reps for our headquarters in Madison Heights, MI. Flexible schedule availability is key because we're open days, nights, and weekends. Previous customer service experience and outdoor gear knowledge are a big plus.

Think about this: ping pong tourneys, free beer Friday's, finger dart wars, and amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear, and MJ products. Trust me, you'll love this place. So hop to it and apply.

How to Apply:
Email this job application and your resume to csjobs@moosejaw.com. Please make sure you let us know which position you're applying for by writing CSR in the subject line of your email. Or you can use some other acronym that makes no sense at all.

Warehouse Associates at Moosejaw.com

We're looking for part-time warehouse associates for our headquarters in Madison Heights, MI. Word on the street is that we were just voted the most fun place to work in the entire world by the Fun Workplace Advisory Council. I might have made that up. Or maybe I didn't.

Warehouse associates pack and ship Moosejaw merchandise to customers, handling each package with care and love. Lots of love and besos. We also have a reputation of playing great music in the warehouse. Dancing is encouraged.

There are a variety of schedules available. We're pretty flexible, but we still can't do the splits. If you're not interested, please tell at least six friends, one ex-girl/boyfriend, and two enemies.

How to Apply:
Email this job application and your resume to whjobs@moosejaw.com. Please make sure you let us know which position you're applying for by writing WH in the subject line of your email.

Assistant Shop Managers

We're always on the lookout for awesome assistant managers to help manage our shops and staff. Plus be enthusiastic, engaging and fun while assisting custies with sales and product info. I'd say our assistant shop managers are tha bomb. If that term wasn't so 2005.

Things we'd like you to bring to the table:

  • Open schedule availability
  • A creative mindset and a passion for customer service
  • A witty sense of humor also helps
  • 2+ years of retail/sales experience and outdoor gear knowledge preferred

Things we'll bring to the table:

  • Incredible employee discounts on Moosejaw merchandise
  • Cool work environment. Coworkers are genuinely fun to be around. Especially me.
  • Great 401(k) and benefit package. I know blah, blah, blah. So boring.

How to Apply:
Email your resume or application to jobs@moosejaw.com. Although we'd like to think we're psychic, we're really not. So please make sure you let us know which position and store you're applying for by writing it in the subject line of your email. Word up.

Sales Associates, All Shop Locations

We're seeking sales associates for all shop locations. This job involves sales, customer service and humans. Or Homo Sapiens and stuff if you prefer to be technical. The technical part of that sentence was the word "stuff."

Moosejaw sales associates have an enthusiastic, fun and positive attitude while assisting customers with sales and product information. A good sense of humor, creative mindset and passion for customer service are needed. Like an I-love-you-so-much-I-want-to-have-a-million-babies-with-you passion for customer service. Plus outdoor gear knowledge is preferred.

How to Apply:
Apply in person at the shop of your choice or email your application to jobs@moosejaw.com. Don't forget to include which shop you wanna work at and your best self-portrait sketch using only old-school pencil. This description has a lot more hyphens than normal. JK. About the sketch thing. Not the hyphen thing.

Moosejaw Models Wanted

We're looking for a few female models, age 18-25, to pose gracefully in the coolest products we carry. Models will be used for in-house photo shoots at our headquarters located in Madison Heights, Michigan. This will be great exposure (and I don't mean indecent by any means) for up-and-coming models as they'll appear in our print, catalog and online material.

  • Modeling experience is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. No ifs, ands or buts.
  • Michigan applicants only. Although we love the rest of the country, we're quite partial to Michigan. Oh yeah, and Moosejaw will not be paying for expenses to travel to our headquarters. So it'd probably save you a lot of money in gas if you live in state.

How to Apply:
Email your resume or work history, along with no more than 3 pictures, to models@moosejaw.com. We're very serious about the 3-picture limit, so if you send 4 we'll think you're not great about following directions. Sorry to be so mean.
