When I was in third grade I gave myself the worst haircut possible. I used my favorite cereal bowl as a guide and just went at my hair with a pair of clippers. It would have been a passable bowl cut if it hadn’t been the kind of cereal bowl that has a straw built in for drinking the milk after. Basically, I ended up with a rattail that was slightly off center on my forehead.
It was then that I learned the value of having a really cool hat. Not only are hats great for protecting kids from the elements during the winter, they can shield you from the sun in summer and give your hair a chance to return to normal. Whether your kid is the sort who prefers a beanie or a bucket hat is inconsequential, as long as they are wearing something awesome that will make the other kids green with envy. In the winter though, nothing makes having a great time in the snow easier than having a balaclava that shields your head and your face.
