Love these boots. The best feature is one can walk vast distances over rough terrain with no foot fatigue or chafing. They give great support all over .With glove leather lining they essentially break in to be custom fit to your foot. This is a most pleasant sensation. The thick leather stays stiff where support and protection is needed but supple at flex points. The leather is waterproof yet very breathable.Comfortable in hot and cold weather. The boots look clumpy but are the opposite. The soles are somehow designed to give one a graceful gliding, rolling stride like walking shoes..Where these boots really excel is when walking on harsh and ..steep and rock .Walking around cliff edges in Sedona Arizona I really appreciated the bolted to the ground, no slop feel.On cold days they stay dry in snow, no seems to leak.In hot weather they breath better than Goretex .They also basically armor and reinforce your feet..Cheap they are not but they are a pleasure on all surfaces in all weather
The quality of the boot is fantastic ... Beautiful leather, excellent sole, make and attention to detail is fantastic. The boot is solid while also very comfortable. I'd say the boot runs about a half to full size large so would recommend going down half a size with a thick hiking sock assuming you will wear in cold weather. It's an expensive boot but you won't regret it.
Just got these and walked a couple miles in them. No blisters, but clearly, full break in is going to be a bit of a process. Pretty sure I'm going to love them. If you are looking for a light boot, a low maintenance boot, a boot requiring little to no break in, or a gore tex boot then move along, these aren't for you. However if you appreciate high quality full grain leather on the outside and supple leather on the inside, the breathability of no gore tex, if you want a boot that can be resoled and isn't held together with glue and you don't mind the weight penalty then this just might be the boot for you. The boot is fully lined with soft calf skin which feels great but they recommend regularly cleaning with a damp warm cloth both inside and out and reconditioning with their proofing cream to clean off grime outside and the salts from perspiration on the inside. Hmmmm. Might have to enlist the aid of someone with much smaller hands than mine to do a good job on the inside.
I will have to say this is the best boot I have ever put on my foot. The material and workman ship is out standing. The boots feel so good when you put them on your feet, you don't want to take them off. They seem to run large to me. I wear a 10 in merrells, but a 10 in these were to large. I don't think MJ has a 9.5. Dam, may have to get the Tofane instead.
I've never had a "really really good pair" of boots, but these are killer! The quality is incredible, and you can really see the craftsmanship and time put into these. I can't wait to use them. I ended up going a 1/2 size down from my regular shoe (typically 9.5, but am going with a 9 in these), as they seem to run a little big, at least for me. Actually, the Euro size was more appropriate (I measured a 43 Euro, which according to the Zamberlan website, is comparable to a size 9). Can't wait to wear these and break them in.
