The 'Q' in the Yakima Q Towers stands for the quadruple movement capability of the tower and the clip. So the four degrees of freedom allows them to fit your car like custom tailored underpants.

"Turned my Honda Fit into a Chick Magnet!" 04/10/13

I looked at Thule and I looked at Yakima and I decided I like the way the word Yakima sounds better. But I also liked the way Yakima was priced so much lower. Installation was easy cheesy lemon squeezie. Anyone who can read and follow directions will not have an ounce of trouble getting the q-towers installed. I can barely tell a hammer from a wrench and I had the thing mounted in record time. Very pleased!

The Yakima Q Tower system works great. The only con is that the Q clips have the potential to damage your paint if not installed correctly. As far as the Q tower itself, it is a solidly manufactured part and will stand the test of time.

"Newer deign much better" 08/21/12

We have the older ones and these are much better. They have a better adjustment screw on the side which allow them to grip the bars. Very easy to mount.

"Needed for a Yakima Rack." 07/05/12

Directions seem confusing at first but once you get 1 together, the other 3 will go quickly. Fits very well and holds the rack to the roof perfectly! Don't forget the correct Q clips to fit your car!

"Look dated and they are now but still work great" 06/12/12

Bought this instead of the higher priced and fancier looking new yakima rack systems. Wouldnt recommend anything else. These are easy to install, easy to uninstall, and extremely sturdy.

"Be Careful Installing" 01/24/12

If you overtighten it will bend structure and then the hole where the sks locks align will not properly align. That means you will not be able to lock the housing despite the tower being installed on the roof. I was putting the racks up and couldn't figure out why such a simple system wasnt locking when i turned the key. And the pro at REI says despite doing soo many of these installs he still overtightens these (and bends them) from time to time. Poor design. Theyre fine once their up. click down the housing and youre set to go. but initial install may cause problems.

I got this as a birthday gift for my boyfriend and he is one happy camper. We were initially concerned about how these would treat the car, but it does not leave any marks or scratches. It's very simple to install and remove. The only downside is the noise while driving. It's recommended to get a fairing.

"These get the job done!" 09/17/11

I was certainly a little skeptical when I opened these that they would adequately hold my system to my car. After installation, it's almost as if this was a factory setup! No worries on this one, works fantastically!
