"Better than nothing at all." 11/21/11
A must for you rack, the Yakima Deadlock acts as a good deterrent but would not be able to stop a determined thief. Installation is very quick and easy with the supplied instructions. The cable seems to secure only the first two bikes at the end of the rack, but this could be a problem carrying only one or two closer to the vehicle. Not a strong theft deterrent but better than nothing, I would recommend to anyone buying a compatible Yakima rack.

Hey, nothing is going to stop a determined criminal, but this does what it's intended to do, be a deterrent. I love the convenience, the lock and cable are always there when you need them. The cable is very short, so if you are going to carry more than 2 bikes, you will need to buy another standard bike cable that you can loop through the DeadLock cable.

Although this product isn't anything super high tech or fancy, it does give me peace knowing that our bikes/bike rack is not getting stolen in the middle of the night or during the day when we're not around. A cord pulls out from one of the rack arms so that you can wrap it around one or two bikes and then lock it in place. If you have only one bike in the first position of the rack (closest to the vehicle), I'm not sure if the cord is long enough to wrap around that far. You would probably have to move your bike to a position further from your car.

The Deadlock is an absolute must if you are buying a Yakima Hitchrack if you are not, it would still make a great conversation piece for the coffee table. It integrates perfectly into the rack, is easy to operate, and stows-away when not in use. The included hitchpin lock is keyed the same and works great.
