"Well manufactured, easily installed product." 03/20/12
Bought these for my tired old beamer so I could tote around my sweet sea kayak I just got.. Paired with the landing pads, crossbars, hully rollers, shark things and Yakima wind deflector thing they look pretty sporty and make people think I'm not as lazy as I really am.. They were a breeze to install, even for a moron like me, so shouldn't be a problem for anyone of less than average intelligence. They look well made and should last well.Good price and excellent service as usual from Moosejaw. Get em.
"Great product, easy to mount/dismount." 02/26/12
These yakima rack products are built solid, easy to use, and have a much greater weight rating than the factory stuff. After you mount the landing pads to your vehicle, the control towers mount on those easily and quickly. You insert the crossbars, tighten it all down, and then when you want to remove it, just release the control towers and pick them up off the landing pads with the bars still mounted. It takes 30 seconds to dismount/mount the system after it is put together, and holds several kayaks with ease. You will want to get the wind fairing though, to stop the hum caused by the bars vibrating in the airflow.
"Paired up with a landing pad, its not an airfield" 04/28/11
Yep, airfields have landing pads and control towers...but in this case, my 9-3 SportCombi has a Yakima roof rack. This set up is simple to install, simple to use, and rock solid in action. Pay attention to the directions and these will go on in a snap....literally!Don't forget to get SKS cores for these nifty bits, lest some jerk come by and steal your racks (towers, crossbars, and bike/snowboard/kayak/etc. racks off your car and scratch the mess off your roof to boot). And they'll go with me to my next car...and new landing pads if required....
"Attaches to neat hidden hardpoints on the 2010 Mazda3" 04/17/11
Easy to mount to the roof of the 2010 Mazda3 (If you have one, see the sliding "doors" in the black molding on the roof? Slide them away and you'll see the mounting points.)Looks sano when you don't need the roof rack on.
"Work great and look great" 06/11/07
This is the best engineered component in the Yakima roof rack system. I purchased these for use with my 2003 Honda CR-V and they work great. I am very happy with the control towers themselves. The other components of the roof rack system SKS lock cores and landing pads are average quality, but these are wonderful. I just wish the entire system had components that fit and worked this well.
"Don't know how I ever lived without them." 05/22/07
The price was right and everything went together fast. They're really of no use without the landing pads and crossbars, so don't forget those. And if you want to keep them, I suggest getting the SKS Lock Cores too.
"Buy these from Moosejaw and women will find you irresistable. I made that up." 08/24/06
I purchased a set of 4 of these and some 58" crossbars to make me look like one of those active outdoorsy types. I tried pretending to be a lumberjack previously, but chicks were not as into that. I guess sawdust and sweat aren't sexy these days. Now I can brag about how I took my Dagger Animas down the Upper Gauley river and lie and say I ran the rapids backwards because I was bored. Maybe someday I'll get my own car to mount these on so i can quit borrowing my neighbors AMC Gremlin. I think between a Gremlin and a Pacer, a Gremlin would definitely win a drag race. Probably a demolition derby too. A Pinto might give it a run for it's money...
