The Men's Flash Jacket by Western Mountaineering. Our quest to find the perfect balance of warmth, weight, and performance has resulted in a very exciting new garment, the Hooded Flash jacket. Western Mountaineering designed this jacket to provide sufficient warmth for the less extreme climate ranges with the least amount of weight. The shell fabric is a tightly woven material that weighs only 0.9 oz. per square yard! There are no cordlocks on this garment because Western Mountaineering has finished the hood and waist with lightweight elastic piping to seal out the cold. The pockets are insulated with down on both sides, and the full zipper has insulated draft protection. This jacket is both comfortable and functional. It is extremely lightweight and has just enough warmth, yet its not too bulky.

"Great Jacket! Love the feel and fit of it! Makes you want to wear it all the time!"

I used this jacket a couple days ago to go snowboarding. It was only -2 to 0 degrees and this jacket with a Mountain Hardwear Trice shell over the top performed better than anything I'd ever worn. I usually go snowboarding/camping in this area about 7 or 8 times a year for about the last 8 years and this jacket combo allowed me to keep the most comfortably warm temperature ever! The Western Mountaineering Flash Jacket probably would have been alright by itself without a shell if there was no wind and no trees to scratch it, and maybe with a sweater or a warm long sleeve shirt. All I had on underneath it was a simple cotton T-shirt!
I used this jacket on the PCT this summer and it kept me warm at all altitudes. Super light and packable, the hood really sets it apart as far as warmth. Really soft and made for a great pillow when not in use, a must have for serious backpackers.
Great jacket, better than the montbell UL with a more athletic fit. Wouldn't take it around too too much on the town, this fabric and material and the down is saved for the mountain. Great range of motion.
This thing is LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT! I was baffled by how light it was and I own coats from both Feathered Friends and RAB. The picture doesn't do this coat justice either. It looks far too shiny in the photo when in actuality, it's not that bad. The size is true and maybe a touch on the small size (I'm 5'8" and 140lbs and ordered small). I use it for both climbing and biking through the cold winter months. It looks great on the street as well! A+!
This is probabyl my favorite piece of outdoor gear. Doubles as a hood for my quilt, is plenty warm (way more than the 3oz of down would suggest), came in right at weight spec (9oz), and looks damn good to boot. I've used it down to about 30 degrees sitting around camp, and 20 degrees as part of my sleep system and hiking. Lost a few feathers when it first came out of the stuff sack, but that's to be expected, hasn't lost any since, so I'm quite happy with it. Sheds water better than any other down I've had in this weight range, though I wouldn't want to have it out in a downpour obviously. Overall a great jacket.
I love this jacket. super lightweight and super warm. It is warm without being too bulky. Like all WM gear, this is incredible. I am 6'1", 170lbs and have 40" chest and the medium fits like it was made for me. I wear this under my shell for 0 degree skiing days and I am plenty warm. The large would be better if you are using this as an outer piece (and you and I are the same size). Hem is elastic so it seals out the wind and the hood is so nice and warm. Would recommend this to anyone. Be careful though because it is a very lightweight material for the shell of the jacket and could tear easily if hiking through brush. This thing is awesome!
