The Western Mountaineering Ion Parka is a insulated parka for big mountain adventure. The recipe for fun in cold, winter weather should definitely include the longer cut and 850+ fill power goose down insulation of the Ion. The outer shell is made with GORE® WINDSTOPPER™ to block wind, resist moisture and still remain breathable as you work up or down the mountain. It's only 25 ounces in weight so it won't weigh you down. Stuff your extra gloves in the zippered cargo pockets and any more valuable items in the interior zippered pocket.

Sincerely Fantastic Parka - Light, Comfortable n WarmPurchased a few weeks ago. Worn at -6 n 28mph gusts. Very warm. Then got crazy n went out with just a tee under. Still comfortable. So light you forget you are wearing a parka. ,,,,Tried various other brands - returned em all n kept this one. ,,,,Sizes a bit small - 5-11 - 154# medium fits fine. ,,,,WM doesn't get a lot of press but if you own one of their sleeping bags you know the fantastic quality of their gear. Take a look at WM's website for the whole story. USA made n EU down. What's not to love !
Do you know the pit to pit measurement on the size Large? Im a 43 inch chest, but Im worried the sizing runs small.

Hiya! Thanks for the question. This jacket measures 25" from underarm to underarm. You should have room to wear this jacket and layer underneath. Hope this helps!

How dark is this jacket? It says Black in the color choice but the image looks more like a dusty gray...is there anything you can compare it to?

Thanks for reaching out to us! It has to be the lighting in the photo. I pulled one of our Western Mountaineering Ion Parkas from our warehouse to double-check the color and black looks like black, not dusty gray. Hope this helps out!
