Great shoe, odd sizingThis is a great shoe. I have a pair of Vasque boots I use for early season mountain hiking and they are fantastic. I bought an 11 in this Mantra based off my Vasque boot size. Size 11 WAY too big. OK. Size 10.5 a little big as well. Size 10.0 too small!
Needless to say, I am not keeping these shoes because the sizing is just not right and for the price and what i'll be using them for (big mountain backpacking), I just can't settle.
I can tell these are a great shoe, however. Very solid and great support, due to the PU midsole. The vibram outsole is solid with great traction.
I did not test the waterproofness.
Overall, though, an ugly shoe.
Add some color!

Fabric doesn't hold upI've had these shoes for abt 2 years now but have hiked in them approx 100 miles and the inner lining of the heel is coming unglued causing the fabric to move=blisters. The thicker upper lining also inside is wearing and coming apart. Finally, the rubber on the toe area is pulling away from the shoe. The soles do not provide great traction-quite slippery. As someone else mentioned about the laces not staying tied (on a different model) same problem here. I believe it is the round laces as I have experienced this on many brands. Replace with flat laces and they will stay tied. I love vasque and I believe they have always made a high quality boot, but I'm not sure what happened here.

Great fit, stable footingAnother brand caused my knees to hurt, so I went to an outdoor outfitter in Spokane, and am very happy with the Vasque Mantra GTX hiking shoes recommended and fitted by a salesperson there. I live in the mountains and spend a lot of time on steep grassy and wooded slopes. My feet have stayed dry in snowy or wet conditions, though I have not tried wading in water like a creek. Good overall support and stable footing. I am in my late sixties, and appreciate the level of arch support. I plan to buy another pair.

NOT waterproof!I had the shoes just under a year and was quite happy until now - comfortable and heavy duty, though not good looking. However, I got them especially for the waterproof quality, after a disappointment with another "waterproof" brand. On a hiking trip in snowy country my toes were damp daily and the shoes were very wet on the inside. I still have the original box with the "Gore-tex guaranteed to keep you dry" tag. Not so.

Excellent SupportThese are the very best shoes for supporting the instep, and the heels of anyone with posterior tibial tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and/or heel pain. I've been wearing them for years, and they are the best shoes I've ever worn. I do use an orthotic insert, but even without that, they really keep the foot from pronating incorrectly. Fast service from Moose Jaw too.

Not bad. Two year lifespanNot bad. Used heavily, but getting worn out after two years of daily use as "commuter shoes" to walk back and forth to work. Everything wears out eventually, but I'd hoped to have gotten more than two years out of them.

Perfect shoes for 30+ mile backpacking tripVery comfortable shoe. My feet didn't even hurt after each day. The waterproofing worked well and kept my feet dry. Would definitely recommend these for hiking/backpacking trips.
