I've had 3 pairs of these boots. I bought my first pair in high school 13 years ago. I trekked through Philmont with the Boy Scouts on 2 different trips, Colorado, all over the mid-south, Europe and now Michigan with the same pair of boots. I've put more miles on them than I do my tires. The second pair I bought was after they went to China and you can tell the difference in quality. Those fell apart in 2 years ( back to the orginal boots i went). Last year i finally bought a new pair of boots. I will tell you that you'll need some good insoles, and if it were me, i'd buy a size down from what you normally wear. take good care of them and they'll take good care of you.

I got my first pair of Sundowners from Moosejaw a few weeks ago. I'm breaking them in now for a trip to Colorado in two months. So far, so good. They are breaking in quickly I love that I can wear them everyday if I need to. They are really easy to clean (just wipe) because of the all leather design. Great support, classic style and maybe one of the most versatile outdoor boots on the market. The tread could probably use some updating and I would recommend getting some higher quality insoles. Word is that quality went down on these when Vasque moved production to China. I haven't seen it yet ... time will tell. Such a classic boot.

"You cannot go wrong with this boot !" 02/02/11
I purchased these boots for working at an outdoor, adventure camp in Central Ohio. What drew me to the Vasque Sundowner was the fact that they were Gore-Tex. These boots were able to breathe during the heat of summer, the coolness of fall, the frigid temps and snow of winter, and during the wet months of spring. Their durability is absolutely outstanding. I especially was thankful for them while backpacking in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Tennessee. These boots kept me dry while crossing shallow streamsand helped me along all types of rough terrain. By far, these are the best boots I have ever owned!
"Not what they used to be but still a realy good boot" 11/06/10
I bought my first pair of SunDowners almost 20 years ago.Since then I have always had a pair.I am in developmental construction and have worn them working on a crew 5 days a week to wearing them in the office 6 days a week.I wear my boots 7 days a week. I also wear them hiking, everywhere from Custer National Forest in SD most recently to Red River Gorge most regularly.Ive had them hiking in the Canadian Rockies outside of Jasper, Mt Shasta in Cali, the Rockies in Utah, etc. They have never let me down.As much as I wear them I get about a year and a half out of the newer ones where I used to get 2-3 years out of the older ones. With that said, for $135 you cant go wrong with these boots.
"This boot will take you to the end of the world and back!" 11/02/10
I bought my first pair of Sundowners in 1984 and the first day out in them I climbed Mt. Mansfield, highest peak in VT. (not so high, but highest in VT). Then I took them around the world with me several times, hiking around London, Paris, Berlin, etc. and many mountains in between (French Alps, Canadian Rockies, Green Mountains, Alaska, etc.). And about 18 years, they finally gave out . . . on Mt. Mansfield in VT again! What goes around comes around. Comfort all the way. Sturdy....But I've heard they're not making them like they used to, but until then, one of the most valuable products I had ever bought of anything!
"not what they used to be" 07/16/10
Used to be an absolutely great boot! Rated "total crap" because they are supposed to be "Vasque." Not near as comfortable and well constructed as they were before being "Made in China." Foot bed poor support, ankle collar inadequate - digs into ankle area.
"Nice looking boot, cheap construction" 06/08/10
Was really excited for these boots. They look great in a classic retro style. My major gripe with them is that the stitching on the inside of the boot is quite poor resulting in a number of rubbing points which caused a few blisters and bruises around my ankle. Also, they run really big. Order 1/2 to a whole size down from your normal size.
"The right sole fell off after over 15 years and 1000 miles of backpacking - very comfortable boot" 04/22/10
I bought my Sundowners when I was a Scoutmaster about fifteen years ago. I have hiked well over 1000 miles in them and they are very comfortable. Last week, I was hiking and the right sole fell off. I hiked three miles back to the car without incident. The leather looks like hell (totally scuffed uppers, lowers and everything else), but I am going to try to get new soles because they are comfortable and I don't want to go through a break-in at this point in my life if I can avoid it. If I can't get new soles, I will buy another pair.
"10 years and counting" 12/17/09
I bought a pair of these ten years ago for a backpacking trip (approx. 75 miler) and I am still wearing them (actually as I type this message)...you must remember that these boots came out before the whole ultra light wave and these are quite heavy duty....If you are going to be doing some heavy hiking/yard work/machinery/or just kicking someones rumpus, you might want to consider buying a pair....like I said, I have had these for 10 years and I have done everything in them--obviously I havent worn them everyday--and they are still like brand new will a little shoe polish...
"Heavy Duty, Timeless Style." 11/22/09
I bought these boots because winter is coming fast and I needed a dry, comfortable and warm boot for work. I was expecting some growing pains with the break-in time, but I have to say that they broke in relatively fast ( a day or two). My other concern is that they would be too hot for indoor wear. That too was shot down. These boot are surprisingly breathable.I'm expecting many years of wear from these well made bbots
