Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must when sports climbing in the USA - easy to use, could be a bit more stable @ max length I am from Europe (Germany) and was a bit surprised when seeing the first bolts of american sport routes often are not only high, but sometimes even above difficult parts of the routes. ,,,,For this situation, the beta stick is the perfect "ready-to-use" solution. Well adjustable, easy to understand and use, it is just right. We have the short version which was always long enough for us.,,,,It could be a bit more stable when the thinnest part is extended. Apart from that, only the price could be lower - but actually I think it is acceptable. ,,,,A clipstick is definitely a must here in teh US, and teh betastick is the comfty uxury version of it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from emergency clipping only Ok,. so we were headed to Red rock Canyon and my Squid on the giant painter's pole was not coming I got the beta fits in a suitcase. That is great. BUT it is fussy about which biners wit will take, so we had to use one person;s draws at the first clip all week long, and the clip loosens over time, making it less helpful with every passing use. Unlike the Squid, it cannot retrieve a draw, and it would be tough to hang a rope on a draw already up, though I bet one could find a way using the silly hold-your hold-cleaning -brush-velcro. So it kept us safe, but I would never take it to the crag given the choice to take Squid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this thing rocks! The "compact" model (the cheaper of the 2) is freaking awesome. I used to just use branches and tape cause i didnt want to carry around a painters pole, but this easily straps on (or goes in) a pack and is a dream to use. Sure, sometimes you have to use the velcro strap if you are using a biner with a really strong gate, but so what? 95% of the time I dont have to use it. And when I do I dont complain... cause its not a big deal. You can clip the rope to pre-hung draws, and it has a plastic "clip" so you can hang it on your harness to help hang the draws on your project if you're into that sort of thing. I've been using it for months, regularly, with no troubles. LOVE IT.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great concept that is actually a POS I thought that a collapsible stick clip was the best idea ever...I can fly with it, and strap it to my pack for hiking. It collapses to a small size, but that's about all. The main issue is that the spring arms won't hold any of my carabiners open, neither wire gate or regular. There is a way to get around the beta stick not doing it's only job, which involves using the velcro to assist. But on my first use, high in the Sierras, both the velcro broke and now the head spins freely and won't tighten. I currently own a $70 lightning rod. No word from Trango about warrant yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Stick Clip, REALLY AMAZING BOULDERING BRUSH I've been taping tooth brushes to the end of various sticks for a lot of my life, but with this handly little device, those days of looting foliage are over! The brush attachment for this thing its just amazing and I take it bouldering with me every time. Not only can I clean those "TOO HIGH TO REACH" holds, but I can use the brush to explore high holds and see how good they are/where the sweet spot is etc. I don't go to the boulder fiend without my beta stick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for backpacks! A friend had one of these and after using, I decided I was done with the painter's pole. I bought the longer of the two, and when collapsed, it is just a bit taller than my backpack. It's not obtrusively large though. The stick is long enough to reach a majority of the high first bolts at the new, and small enough to carry easily. It does not work with a wire gate biner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy. Breezy. Beta Stick. I was gifted this item prior to a trip to Utah. Had no trouble walking it through the airport (one TSA officer looked at it but let me carry it once I told him what it was for (but also advised me against fully extending it inside the airport or the airplane (which, needless to say, was never the plan))). It took a minute to figure out how to get the quickdraw on and the carabiner didn't fit exactly, but it was snug and it got the job done! The only issue we had was when one of my shorter friends (they were both short, actually) was trying to clip the first bolt and couldn't reach it... I could reach it, but he wouldn't let me. Must have been an ego thing. I made sure to tease him about it before he belayed me. Collapsibility is great! Extending one section allowed it to be used as a walking stick (but my friend still managed to trip down the trail while using it at such (twice (you'd think being shorter and having a lower center of gravity would reduce falls...))).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tool for that precarious placed first bolt I bought this because sometimes that 1st bolt is just outside my comfort level. I have a family to provide for, and that would be hard to do on 2 broken ankles. Like how it packs down, very lightweight and straps to a pack easily. Only downside is, very pricey
