The Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad is an ultralight, three-season camping mattress that is perfect for those go-anywhere, sleep-on-anything treks and bivies where every ounce counts. With a weight less than a pound, this mattress literally can go anywhere easily. All-new proprietary foams on the Z-Lite are softer on top for extra comfort and denser on the bottom for extra durability. Therm-a-Rest's closed-cell foam is incredibly durable, providing an exceptional value and many years of worry-free performance. For simple packing, the accordion shape packs more comfort into a smaller space than any other closed-cell foam mattress out there. The Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad is the best choice for when you need a comfortable night's sleep, but prefer to not deal with the weight and bulk most other sleeping pads come with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very versatile, and a great deal My first sleeping pad was inflatable, but I was a little rough on it and it kept getting leaks. Now I have a z-rest, and I honestly wouldn't go back. The z-rest is relatively light, warm, easy to deal with, and pretty comfortable. Its a little bulky, but I just strap in on the outside of my backpack for trips and it works fine. It is low maintenance and very versatile, which is definitely the best part of having a z-rest. I can half-fold it and use it as a sit-pad, drag it next to the campfire and not worry about it popping, and never have to worry about whether or not it is going to inflate. I recommend one to new campers and avid backpackers alike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from compact, light, and comfortable for warm-weather camping Because of the short version's shorter length and accordion folding, it is compact enough for me to keep in my pack while backpacking, which keeps me from worrying about its getting wet, dirty, etc.... The short length also saves on weight - something I often appreciate on my backpacking excursions. Despite its compactness and light weight, it allows for comfort on ground close to 0°C. I have even used the pad on snow though I wouldn’t recommend it; my side facing the ground was always uncomfortably cold and my other side was always uncomfortably hot. I’d recommend this pad for lightweight backpacking in relatively warm conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential Piece of Gear Good for 1-2 Nights I grab my 3/4-length (small) Z-Rest when I want to keep my pack weight down and I am going out for only 1-2 nights. For longer trips I pull out the Thermarest NeoAir mattress. I am a 40-something side sleeper, and after 2 nights my hips start to get a little tender sleeping on this pad. But at only 9.7 oz, it's a worthwhile trade-off. Also, some ultralight backpacks are designed to use this pad as part of the structure of the load in your pack, serving a dual purpose. This is the most comfortable closed-cell foam pad I have found, beating both the old "blue pad" and the Thermarest Ridge Rest. And because it won't pop like an air mattress, you can sit on it around camp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the Weight I am a relatively thin guy at 5'10 and 140lbs. The Therm-A-Rest Z-Lite was still pretty narrow for me. It's very easy to move a few inches to either side in your sleep and be off of the sleeping pad and onto the freezing ground. Much less warm than an inflatable pad. Many of the egg-carton style bumps would compress a lot and touch the ground, adding to the cold and hardness of the ground. The Therm-a-Rest does NOT act as a cushion at all. The folded rectangle shape is kind of awkward when attaching the pad to the exterior of a pack. On the plus side, this pad is super light! Go for it if you are a super minimalist. This is the next best thing to sleeping right on the ground.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fairly comfy closed cell pad I really prefer the accordian folds of this over a roll up pad. I think it's annoying trying to get the roll up type pads to lay flat after you go through the effort to tightly roll them up to minimize space. It's a minor thing but it bugged me and with these, that annoyance is gone. I think its a fairly comfy pad, it's not going to compete with a super thick air pad for comfort but I like not having to worry about leaks or patching in the event of a leak. I'll be looking at using 2 pads (this one and an air) if I go someplace that has very uncomfortable ground. It's just not thick enough to deal with really uneven or rocky ground. It all depends on what you want out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intentionally bought one a little small? Yes! It was time to purchase my second one of these z rests. I got good use out of the first one. They are easy to fold and make a seat cushion out of. (Particularly convenient when sitting in a dug out snow kitchen.) I like the small size even though I am 6 feet tall. When winter mountaineering I typically bring 2 pads., A closed cell foam one (the z rest) and then a thermarest. Since I put the z rest on the bottom for some additional insulation the small size works well for me and does not need to be exactly the same size as my thermarest. The big advantage is that it is slightly less bulky when carrying it in my pack and probably also saves some weight (a very small amount).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multi-purpose, warm, worry free, lightweight. Slept on this pad for 7 days in a row during a snowboarding trip. This pad alone won't keep you warm enough against the cold winter ground… but this is a VERY warm pad. You can actually feel the heat coming back off of it when you lay on it. I usually supplement this pad with an air pad. It is THE most simple sleep accessory out there. No fuss, no worries, no repairs. I sit on it while cooking over the fire, while sitting around telling stories, bundle one end up for an instant pillow, double up the center when my hips need more cushioning. Insane low fuss/high reward ratio of this item. Only problem can be volume when packed. Though I just strap it to the outside of the pack anyway.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the long haul This is the pad I take (or used to take) on any trip over 3 days. It is light and doubles as a chair. It is surprisingly comfortable on surfaces from rock to dirt to sand to shale to you name it. Warm on colder nights. Unfortunately, I am a side/stomach sleeper and this pad is not conducive to that comfortably. I have since upgraded and didn't realize what I was missing, however, this is the pad I take on long trips where exhaustion alone would put me to sleep on a piece of coral rock. Great pad at a great price but if you are a temperamental sleeper, save up for an inflating one.
