Rated 5 out of 5 by from A work horse! I actually own several large and regular sizes; had them for ever it seems. They are definitely bulky but worth the volume. My wife and I use them car camping with our cots for extra insulation. I also use one under my old Therm-a-Rest self-inflating mattress as protection from sharp objects. You never plan on a puncture, but it happened to me at the worst time. So now i carry the Ridgerest and an inflatable. Sadly my cat has clawed and chewed on all my RidgeRests, so they are shredded at the ends--inflatables would need patching of course. I love the light weight and indestructible qualities. The price is unbeatable too. I love this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid reliable and versatile you can walk on them with crampons, great for heated yoga funny enough, as the traditional yoga mat will cause you to slide when wet. roll it up and put a trash bag in it and you have a trash can, there are many many uses, get creative and make even more out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not as warm as normal insulated pads, but a good choice for cool weather RidgeRest fans. I've been cold on a regular RidgeRest a few times, so much so that I started using a cheap CCF pad to supplement for the cooler Carolina fall. It came time to replace my CCF pad and I figured I'd try this pad out instead - it was a good choice! It's fit the bill, and I'm no longer needing anything more to keep me warm in the fall season. Now I can carry my RidgeRest in the summer, the RidgeRest solar in spring and fall, and my Big Agnes pad in the winter season to keep me warm and comfy at night. It's a new product, but well worth looking into.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Non-Inflating Camp Mattress Out There! After owning two different self-inflating pads that ended up getting holes in them after only six months of use I decided to go back to the tried and true closed cell version. This particular pad is definitely on the thick side so it's better for car camping. If you're going backpacking, stick with the Therm-A-Rest SOLite. Oh, and also these things are definitely warm. If you're camping in the summertime make sure you face the reflective surface toward the ground, otherwise you'll feel like you're in a sauna.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but bulky This is a great sleeping pad for car camping and short backpacking trips. It is far more sturdy than inflatable sleeping pads and will insulate you and keep you warm under most conditions. However, it is HUGE when rolled up, so it can be tough to bring on longer backpacking trips. It definitely will not fit in most packs and can be a pain to attach to the outside. However, if you know this going in and are willing to accommodate its bulkiness, this is a great pad to own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely durable, relatively warm and cheap as hell for what you get. Been carrying on my thru-hike on the AT. It has held up to everyday use for the last 3 months and a lot of bushwhacking while strapped to the outside of my pack. It is comfortable enough to use on the wooden shelter floors and is pretty much indestructible....,,My only complaint is that the silver color coating (which supplies extra warmth) rubs off when you use it enough, I started to see a noticeable change within the first few weeks of using it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from warm, but bulky By far this gives you the best ground insulation against loss of heat. But it is bulky and you can still feel every bump in the ground. I have paired this with another un-insulated air pad and matched them together using a thermolite sleeping bag liner and slept warm and cozy on a cool fall night. On its own it is adequate but a challenge to do any serious hiking due to the bulk.,,,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfy, for a sleeping pad. Let's face it, you're never actually comfortable on a sleeping pad. I use this on cold hard ground, soft not-so-cold ground, and underneath me in my hammock. In all of those situations, it did its job. It kept me warm, somewhat padded, and kept porcupine needles out of my back (true story). It's cheap and won't be ruined if you poke a hole in it on a pine tree.

I like the large size, but can I trim the length without harming the integrity?

Asked by: Rodney
Altering the sleeping pad in any way is not recommended, since this could lead to the materials coming apart and would void all warranty on the item.
