I received this pillow by mistake and will send it back unused so this review is first impressions only. It sucks in my opinion, and it blows me away how many folks are happy with it. It's nothing but a clumpy, bumpy bag of foam bits housed in what looks to be durable but definitely not comfortable material. The stuff pocket and compression string channel take up 1/4 of the surface area creating an annoying band that would make that part unusable for me anyway. Maybe once it's washed the material gets softer but out of the box, it's not soft at all. It's pretty light but not all that compressible. It's more expensive but the Nemo Fillo is WAY more comfortable and adaptable as far as height adjustability. And since it's an air/foam combo solution, it's more compact as well. Looking at the ratings of this thing, if I were in the market I would have considered this pillow as I value users opinions. Glad I wasn't in the market. First impression though folks. There's better available.
Overall this is a very decent pillow to take with you traveling. Whether it is by plane to on foot there are not too many pillows that are as compact and as light as this pillow is. The only problem is how much the pillow compresses during use. I like a firm pillow and this one compresses a little too much for me but that is only a minor problem. I would recommend this product especially if you can get it on sale.
I highly recommend this product. I used it while backpacking in Colorado, and it compresses very nicely- it barely took up any space in my bag, but when expanded, it was still very comfy. No complaints!
Taking this pillow on a trek through the Gran Tetons made a huge difference. After long days of backpacking, heavy packs, dodging bears, and reconstituted food, this little extra weight for comfort was well worth it. I hung this outside my pack for some of the hike, it did get a little wet, but this did not deter from the performance, it dried quickly and still fluffed all the way up. I actually used this at the hostile we stayed at rather than the provided pillows. It isn't the fullest most comfy pillow you will ever use, but it really does beat a stuff sack full of lumpy, smelly clothes.
These pillows are pretty much the bomb! I got the medium because I borrowed my friend's small one of these for my trip to Fiji and I just needed a little more room for my head. But the medium is the perfect size especially for camping. The small is probably best for travel and backpacking. The pillow will fill up within an hour of laying it out and then you can compress it to a decently small size that will fit in your luggage or backpack.
Purchased the Medium. Puffs up really nice after you wash it and throw it in the dryer but you lose all of that loft when you stuff it up and let it sit for a couple of days. When I unpacked it at camp I thought it would fluff up again, and it did, but not to the extent of coming out of the dryer. I'm a side sleeper with broad shoulders and didn't find this pillow to have enough loft to support my head. Then again, I don't know if there's a travel/packable pillow on the market that does. The material is soft and I like that's it's washable.
I bought a medium sized pillow for backpacking. The pillow compresses pretty well and stores easily in a backpack. When de-compressed, all you have to do is give it a few good shakes and it fluffs back to normal! The pillow is pretty durable and of good quality. It is machine washable and is very convenient to take on trips. I mainly use this pillow for backpacking, but it is also great to take on road trips, etc. The pillow is also very comfortable!
I got two of these in the mail, medium and large. I was surprised just how big they were and started thinking, " Oh crap, I have a 40L bag I need to fit this in on top of all the rest of the crap I need to bring to top top of this menacing looking mountain." However, once I unrolled and fluffed them and re-packed them, they did get smaller. Not by a whole lot, but smaller. The real review: These were more comfortable than I was ready to give them credit for. Much more so than sleeping on a rock all night, so kudos. The pretty fabric side has one of those annoying plastic cord tie thingys that kept jabbing me in my face all night, so I filled it over and was all good.I would say go for it if you aren't concerned for space in your pack, or are traveling (either size did not pack smaller than those travel neck pillows you see strange people* wear in the airport, even the doctors office). Otherwise maybe consider one that packs smaller.* I am really just jealous when I see them
I slept on this for two years in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan and I loved every moment of it. I put a pillowcase/t-shirt on it because I couldn't wash it that often. Washes and refluffs really nicely each time.
I got this for my night under a tent when I carry my gear on me. It is light, compressible and expand until it is small pillow. It is hard to say if it would fit everyone. Better try and see if the size/volume fits you. I also find myself using it at home as a desk chair pillow as my chair is wood only!
