Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ski Shell I ordered this about a month ago for a ski shell that I could layer under. It was perfect for what I needed because I didn't want to spend $300+ on a Gortex shell when I already have several great rain jackets. For reference I am 5'9 and 140lbs and a medium fit nearly perfect including with several layers. My only complaint is that for me the sleeves could be slightly longer when skiing. But, my gloves cover my wrists so it isn't a big issue for me. I think I have freakishly long arms though, so for anyone else it will probably be fine. Anyway, I also skied in ~15 degree weather and this jacket kept me warm and dry in snowy conditions. Glad I kept it and excellent price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good quality at a good price This is the second Varius Guide jacket I have purchased (2 different colors), and I bought my husband the men's version of the varius jacket. We love them, they're made with quality care, they're water proof, and have held up very well to the outdoor abuses we put them thru during snowshoeing, camping, skiing, hiking, etc. It works well where we live in Tahoe for 3 seasons, possibly summer too if its cooler than normal, especially with the underarm zips opened fully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect compliment to the Denali fleece Winter in Oklahoma is fickle and sometimes one needs extra protection from the blustery wind and winter mix precipitation. The Varius Guide jacket is the perfect compliment to my Denali fleece to keep me toasty and warm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I bought this coat to go over a light down jacket I just bought. I use it with the down for frigid Minnesota days, but see myself just wearing the jacket when I snowshoe or cross country ski.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful track it with a great fit and many features to help keep it snug on your body. It's a shell which allows you to put it warmer fleece type jacket or hoodie underneath.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from North Face Winter Jacket The jacket is super durable and warm, perfect for snow and wind conditions. The only thing is I usually wear a size small and I order a medium, it was still snug and short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit, very slimming! I love this jacket! Looks great on and is longer in the back. Love it!

Is this jacket made in China?

the description says this is "Zip-In Compatible". What are the compatible products? We just bought a Denali fleece jacket in small - would that zip into this jacket in a size small? if so that would be perfect!

Asked by: Ready for winter
Hiya, thanks for your question! Yes, the Denail jacket will zip into the Varius Guide Jacket! Other zip-in compatible garments include the Khumbu 2 Jacket, Nuptse Jacket and Vest and Mossbud Swirl Jacket and Vest. Hope this helps!

Does this jacket breathe well enough for cross country skiing?  Are the pockets sufficient for gloves and a cell phone?  thanks!

Asked by: washgrover
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! TNF Varius Guide Jacket is more of a shell and will not have much (if any) insulation, and thus, will not be able to stand very cold temperatures by itself. However, with some light layering, you should be fine cross-country skiing! The hand pockets have zippers and will fit your gloves and mobile. Add to that the fact that the jacket is waterproof, breathable and comes with pit-zips, you got a solid jacket as you rely on your own locomotion to move across some snow-covered terrain!

Is this just a rain jacket or does it have a liner?

Asked by: mmsebad
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! To answer your questions- yes! Yes, this is a rain jacket (waterproof, as well) and it also has a liner, a "waterproof, breathable, seam-sealed HyVent 2L shell with drop liner." Hope this helped you out!
Answered by: Rocko Gigsby

Exactly what is a "drop liner"? I understand the concept of a shell jacket...you provide all your own insulation...the shell protects from weather conditions only (water, snow). But what is a drop liner? What does it do? Why is it beneficial?

Asked by: marlene
Thanks for the question! The drop liner is the insulated part of the jacket. You would want to wear the inside liner when you are in colder weather. If you are in rainy or cool weather, then you can unzip the liner and just wear the shell. You can also wear the liner by itself. So it is essentially a 3-in-1 Jacket. It is a great option when you are in climates with many different seasons. I hope this helps!
