Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice coat I purchased this coat on sale a few weeks ago and I love it. It's comfortable and warm. The deep pockets ensure I don't lose items on my commute. I particularly love the shoulder straps to keep the coat on my back when it's too warm in a store to actually wear my coat. I'm also a big fan of the sleeves that fold over my hands as I'm always forgetting my gloves when I step out of the house. The interior bag/pocket is a little annoying. I like the length of this coat - at 5'9" I struggle with finding coats with sleeves that are long enough. Definitely a new favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing coat! I have been wanting this coat for about four months now - my last coat was dying a slow death and I needed something to get me through Chicago winters. This was the only NF coat I tried on that had long enough sleeves - I love the 'emergency mittens' and extendable sleeves! Finally a coat where I don't have to worry about wrist frostbite. The coat is very stylish and cinches in to avoid looking like a marshmallow. I thought the suspenders would be weird, and they do require some thought about where you want them to go when you put on the coat, but they are very nice when you're inside and too warm to wear the coat. Hood is amazing, love the size and the fur. Would definitely buy again but with the quality I don't think I'll have to for a long time!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I've been a 10-year veteran of the Arctic Parka and was looking for a replacement coat because I didn't like the way my arms looked in my old park, the zipper was starting to loosen, and I wanted a new coat with interior cuffs. I tried the latest Arctic Parka, and the arms were ridiculously long, and I was in between sizes XS and S. I am 5'2, 120 lbs, 32D chest. I saw this Shavana online, which looked similar but more modern. The size S fit me better with a little cinching in the waist, and I like that you can fold the sleeve, but there are drawbacks. The inside "backpack" straps are bulky and awkward. I can feel them rubbing against my back. Canada Goose also has these straps but are less obtrusive. Also, the hood does not conform to your face! There are adjustable strings, but it pulls the hood down onto your forehead while the parts around your ears go outward. I just know that the hood will blow off during strong, gusty winds. The fur is also really straggly and matted down. This is going back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded My Expectations I researched a new parka for a few months before I finally pulled the trigger on The North Face Shavana. I read many reviews about this parka and many others including non-North Face. I had a bit of buyer's remorse when I finally ordered it and was waiting for it to arrive in the mail, because I saw a similar style (older Treymaya?) in a store and thought it might be as bulky and shiny as that one was. When I finally did get it I couldn't have been more pleased. Fit....awesome....color....awesome (NOT shiny, but matte which is what I wanted)...warmth....awesome....built in fleece glove like...awesome....hood....awesome. Can't rave enough! If you need a new black parka, love North Face brand (and especially don't want REAL fur - I'm looking at you Canadian Goose!), this park is for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for taller women! I am 5'9" and 160 pounds. I bought a size large and it fits perfectly, hitting just above my knees. I have exceptionally long arms and the extended sleeves keep me covered. The pockets are very deep and the breast pockets are useful for things I need to get to quickly. The zipper seems a bit cheap but it works and I have just had a little difficulty getting the jacket zipped when I am in a hurry. That is my only complaint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and toasty! I bought this for a Christmas trip to North Dakota and then to NYC thereafter. Insofar, this coat has withstood zero degree temps in North Dakota. The longer sleeves with the "mittens" built in keep all wind out and from running up the arms. Although the hood with the fur cuts off a bit of peripheral vision, it does help to block the wind as well. One of my favorite features are the interior shoulder harnesses. I am headed to NYC in January to attend several conferences where I will be standing for hours. These straps will facilitate a "hands-free" experience while I gather collateral material and shake many hands. The coat goes to my knees and keeps every covered portion of my body warm and toasty. I purchased a size Medium. I am 5'9" tall, weigh 140lbs, have an athletic build and wear a size 6 in women's clothing. This was an awesome purchase and I intend to keep this parka for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be anymore perfect I bought this parka after trying it on in the North Face store. The fit is just right. Not bulky. Holds up in the rain and snow. The built in mittens come in hand when the temp drops at night and I've never been cold while wearing this jacket. It does everything it's supposed to do and more- I even had an opportunity to use the reusable bag while shopping for an item at Trader Joes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Innovative features I bought this for my German Shepard who loves to walk & play outside, especially in the snow. The coat is very warm & has some great features- removable hood, several pockets, a drawstring that adjusts the waist, giving shape to this bulky jacket. There's a detachable tote bag that might be useful but that, plus the backpack-type straps at the back are uncomfortable.

Considering this coat for work.  I do helicopter rescue missions in the cold state of Wyoming.  Wondering if this coat would cut it if we ever got stranded outside for the night or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a Canada Goose down jacket.

Asked by: Super Tot
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out to us! And though we'll get to your question...all I can think of now is you being stranded in Wyoming because you lost the keys to your helicopter. Let's hope it doesn't come that. But, if it does (segueway!!!) I think you'd be fine with this jacket. I've found that the best technique for keeping warm, in any jacket, will be layering. Layer with this, and you'll be snug as a bug!!! And, if you're interested, the fill (which is a great indicator of warmth) is 550 on this jacket, compared to Kensington Parka which has a 625 fill. Not that great of a difference. Hope this helps you out! Hugsies.

is the trim real or faux fur?

Asked by: inga
Hey Inga, The trim on this is faux fur. The North Face does not use any real fur in their products. I hope this helps.
