These hiking pants have served me well, it is just important to note they do run slightly small so I would suggest sizing up. I originally bought these pants for a trip to Ecuador where I was going to be in the andes and the rainforest. These pants are also waterproof. While in the rainforest it rained, imagine that, and I remained dry! I wanted something that would serve multiple purposes and they worked wonders. Now that I moved to Denver I have worn these pants several times while hiking. They have been great in the fall since the mornings are cooler but the sun can get really warm and I can adjust my pant length to fit the weather. I want to buy several more pairs.
"Worn in 3 different countries and during 4 different seasons, AWESOME in each one."
I originally bought a pair to wear while in the Ecuadorian Amazon a few years ago. They were great! The waterproofing worked and the easy conversion to shorts was a lifesaver. I continued to wear them for all of my field research once I was back in the States in Arkansas. I love their durability so much that I bought a second pair (and about to buy a third) for when I went to the Falkland Islands. I am 5'8" and weigh ~110 lbs and bought a size 2. My second pair were slightly larger than my first, so I had enough room to wear a base layer and jeans under them to keep warm during the Falkland winter. I would highly recommend these pants to any biologist, adventurer, or backyard birder.
"Comfortable quality pants that are versatile"
These pants are great and the North Face brand is one that I can wholeheartedly recommend. I was looking for convertible pant shorts for a week long summer camp I was working and I tried a few other brands but none compared to these, every brand I tried was just a little too tight around my thighs restricting movement and if I go a size higher then it was a little wide in the waist. I'm 5' 7' 145lbs and I normally wear a size 8 but with these a size 10 was perfect. They were light, comfortable, and had enough room to move in. They are pretty fashionable; I'd be able to wear these out on a casual shopping trip or a day at the amusement park. I just want to wear these everywhere. I've purchased 2 pairs already and has also placed an order for a 3rd pair. I've also recommended my boyfriend to purchase the men's convertible pants and he has loved his North Face as well.
I bought these pants for a trip to Ecuador where we will doing a variety of activities from the Andes to the Rainforest. I would recommend sizing up as they are pretty snug around the thigh. I had to size up and I have very thin legs. Other than that, I love these pants. They are so versatile as they can be worn in three different lengths. The pants also look very nice, they don't look like your typical hiking pants. I would highly recommend these!
"Baggy - Also 112 lbs 5'5" equals size 2"
First, for those who write reviews, giving only your height or saying you're normally a 2 and they fit great is not helpful. Are you normally a 2 at Old Navy or Nordstroms? Where you're normally a 2 makes a difference. So height and weight please. As for these particular pants, I was so excited to get them for a multi-day hike that I ripped the tags off right away and wore them out for errands. I discovered I didn't like the way the pants moved. They are very baggy in the legs, especially around the lower half. When I put my gaiters on, the pants ballooned out over top and looked silly. It's all just too relaxed to be flattering.
I purchased these pants for a trip I will be taking to Ecuador. I will be in the andes and also the amazon so I need pants that could tackle both. I really like that these can be shorts, capris or pants which make them a great buy for the price. These pants also fit pretty well overall, but I size up to the 2 as the thighs were too tight for my normal 0. This wasn't a huge deal, but if you are between two sizes I would def. size up on these. If you are tall, or have long legs, beware. These pants were right on the edge of being too short for me. I am 5'7. Overall, I am pleased with the pants and know I will get a lot of use out of them.
Fit is tight specially on the thigh, 'cannot freely move specially when sitting down. Probably will fit better for someone slim. I normally wear size 8, but with Northface pants i usually take one size up and still this size 10 is tight. Color is good though.
These are quality pants that are versatile for many settings, be it spring, summer or fall. (They are not heavy enough for winter trekking.) What makes them unique is the length you can make them based upon the weather or warmth generated from trekking. Instead of just the standard zip off, you also have a roll up button to pull the pants up to the mid/high calf. This feature is also useful if you decide to cross a waterway and dont wish to get your pants wet. The only negative and this can be said for many hiking attire is that the size is a bit large, so I would advice buying one size down when purchasing.
I've been searching for a good pair of zip off pants... since I feel like a dork when my friend converts her pants into shorts, while I have to do the old fashion pant roll. I wear a size 2 in most pants and no difference with these, the 2 fits perfectly. I like that the shorts are above the knee, as I'm not super tall, and long shorts make me look short. Overall happy with the fit and feel of these pants and can't wait to get out on the trail.
They look cute as pants, capris, or shorts. They fit well in the waist and the draw cord is nice if you need to tighten the waist a little. They are versatile for changing temperatures (pants can be made into crops or shorts). Of course, North Face is usually associated with high quality, and these pants are not any different. Bottom line if you are a slender build with no hips and average size quads these pants would be great for you; but if you are a former college athlete that did hours of jump training and still have the quads to prove it, or hips at all go with a different pant.
