"Baggy - Also 112 lbs 5'5" equals size 2" 05/05/13
First, for those who write reviews, giving only your height or saying you're normally a 2 and they fit great is not helpful. Are you normally a 2 at Old Navy or Nordstroms? Where you're normally a 2 makes a difference. So height and weight please. As for these particular pants, I was so excited to get them for a multi-day hike that I ripped the tags off right away and wore them out for errands. I discovered I didn't like the way the pants moved. They are very baggy in the legs, especially around the lower half. When I put my gaiters on, the pants ballooned out over top and looked silly. It's all just too relaxed to be flattering.
"Versatile and comfortable" 03/09/13
I purchased these pants for a trip I will be taking to Ecuador. I will be in the andes and also the amazon so I need pants that could tackle both. I really like that these can be shorts, capris or pants which make them a great buy for the price. These pants also fit pretty well overall, but I size up to the 2 as the thighs were too tight for my normal 0. This wasn't a huge deal, but if you are between two sizes I would def. size up on these. If you are tall, or have long legs, beware. These pants were right on the edge of being too short for me. I am 5'7. Overall, I am pleased with the pants and know I will get a lot of use out of them.
"Tight fit" 08/19/12
Fit is tight specially on the thigh, 'cannot freely move specially when sitting down. Probably will fit better for someone slim. I normally wear size 8, but with Northface pants i usually take one size up and still this size 10 is tight. Color is good though.
"versatile pants" 08/05/12
These are quality pants that are versatile for many settings, be it spring, summer or fall. (They are not heavy enough for winter trekking.) What makes them unique is the length you can make them based upon the weather or warmth generated from trekking. Instead of just the standard zip off, you also have a roll up button to pull the pants up to the mid/high calf. This feature is also useful if you decide to cross a waterway and dont wish to get your pants wet. The only negative and this can be said for many hiking attire is that the size is a bit large, so I would advice buying one size down when purchasing.
"Just what I wanted" 06/21/12
I've been searching for a good pair of zip off pants... since I feel like a dork when my friend converts her pants into shorts, while I have to do the old fashion pant roll. I wear a size 2 in most pants and no difference with these, the 2 fits perfectly. I like that the shorts are above the knee, as I'm not super tall, and long shorts make me look short. Overall happy with the fit and feel of these pants and can't wait to get out on the trail.
"versatile pants" 06/20/12
They look cute as pants, capris, or shorts. They fit well in the waist and the draw cord is nice if you need to tighten the waist a little. They are versatile for changing temperatures (pants can be made into crops or shorts). Of course, North Face is usually associated with high quality, and these pants are not any different. Bottom line if you are a slender build with no hips and average size quads these pants would be great for you; but if you are a former college athlete that did hours of jump training and still have the quads to prove it, or hips at all go with a different pant.
"Great for Travel" 12/14/11
These pants are great for travel. The fact that they are convertible means you get to pack 1 item for the value of 2, shorts and pants! They are fairly comfortable and very breathable. The only downfall I can give them is that they seem to have things stick to them such as cat hair, etc. Perhaps some anti-static cling would help with that though. Very nice and durable pants though.
"Comfortable and reliable." 09/27/11
Love these pants. I haven't tried on convertible pants before and I was afraid they would look goofy (both as pants and shorts), but they don't at all! The shorts are a really nice length, and I like how they sit higher on your waist so you don't feel like your butt crack is going to hang out when you bend over. I got them in the grey color, which I really like. - the Wife
"Give These A Try!" 09/07/11
I purchased these pants for my recent backpacking trip. I'm 5'9 and these pants fit me perfectly! The zipper feature is simple to get on and off, which is very convenient if you are in a hurry. The pockets are easily accessible and deep enough for my knick-knacks.
"Solid pair of hiking pants" 08/06/11
I picked up a pair of these for my summer hiking. I love how easily they convert to shorts or capris for the warmer weather! They dry fast and clean easy! I did order a size up because some people said they run small, but my normal size would work just fine. My biggest beef with the pants is that they do overheat quickly if you need to keep them long in rougher terrain. Otherwise I absolutely love the durability! I definitely recommend for backcountry adventures.
"Best.Pants.Ever." 07/29/11
I was super excited when these pants arrived and didn't want to wait at all to try them... so I went out in the rain and did a relatively easy hike. I'm pretty sure my dog was jealous of them.. that or she was just trying to get out of the rain.. because for a pit bull who used to roam the streets.. she's really a priss about rain. Anyway, the pants are fantastic- they kept me dry and allowed me to run and climb and jump and fall as much as I wanted. The mud also washed out quite nicely. I wish I could wear them every day.. I am sure I will be buying another pair.. or two.. towards that goal.
