The North Face Men's Thermoball Full Zip Jacket sounds like a jacket you'd wear for a futuristic sport. Thermoball! I imagine football but the field is just a bunch of hot coals.... and our robot overlords force us to compete for their amusement and table scraps. Well, that sport doesn't exist (yet) but the ThermoBall technology is still pretty futuristic. It's a synthetic insulation comprised of round clusters that trap and retain heat with the warmth equivalent of 600 fill down, but with the benefit of being more reliable in wet conditions. The Thermoball jacket is lightweight and packs into an integrated stow pocket. So pick up this jacket and enjoy some winter camping while you can.... because you know those robots are up to something.

The ThermoBall jacket by TNF fits well and is stylish enough to wear anywhere! Two zippered hand warmer pockets with draw strings for waist adjustment. They come in a wide range of colors (firefly green) is mine and with a Ghost Whisperer jacket to prevent it from getting soak and wet in a downpour or light snowfall. The jacket stuffs in it's own pocket, just look for the double zipper pull.Keeping both jackets together only makes sense considering the GW only weighs 2oz.
"Awesome jacket, very compact, comfortable, light weight."
This jacket is the bomb, My friend & I both have the same jacket, we wore it hiking and camping out on frigid cold nights and it kept us both warm & toasty! Rolls up nicely in a ball & lightweight in our backpacks. Love it!
Although it's not a true down garment, but still subject to getting soak and wet and a Ghost Whisperer hooded jacket prevents that.Zippered hand warmer pockets and stuff sack combination makes this TNF Men's ThermoBall jacket a good bargain.
I love the way the jacket fits however the color is no so cool it appears to look dirty so I plan on returning it and the hat did not match even though they say its the same color so If you don't mind the color overall it appears to be a nice jacket. However I'm taking it to work to get some opinions and then I will make a decision if I will keep it or return it.
This purchase was my first experience with Moosejaw. The North Face Thermoball is a superior lightweight, packable and deceptively warm jacket...fantastic purchase for the price. The selection was great as was checkout and shipping was fast. My first Moosejaw purchase will not be my last Moosejaw purchase!
"Terrifically lightweight and insulating - great for light hiking!"
Not only is the NF Thermoball Jacket stylish, but it also insulates to far greater an extent than I once thought possible. I've used it as my outer (or only) layer on a few occasions, and am consistently surprised by how insulating the thermoball winds up being - It even managed to keep me fairly warm while riding my motorcycle at 40 degrees! Pretty impressive for a tightly packable and lightweight down jacket alternative. Very impressed, even if it does look like bubble wrap to the thermoball-uninitiated.
The jacket arrived damaged with a tear in the right shoulder. Didn't notice it until someone pointed it out while wearing it on the first day. While taking it off to check the tear the zipper stuck... While trying to unzip I noticed it was missing 2 teeth... I've usually had a great experience with NF products. Hopefully it's an isolated experience.
"Is exactly what my husband was looking for."
My husband was looking for a thin, lightweight jacket he could layer under his new ski jacket that turned out to not be very warm. This did the trick for sure! He really doesn't even need the ski jacket he was looking to make warmer, this jacket stands alone, even on a blustery, winter night ski at Cannonsburg. :) I only wish they made this same jacket for women, they have the same style, but not the same color...bummer for me because it would look amazing with my beautiful, blue eyes. :)
I have had this jacket for two weeks in the bitter cold of New England and I am extremely impressed. I am 30, 5'11 185 pounds with broad shoulders and the Large fits like a dream. I got the Warm Olive Green color and I get compliments everywhere I go. The color is fantastic. What's most impressive about the jacket is that the more active you are the more heat this jacket retains. It's crazy how a jacket so thin can insulate so well. With that said, you need to layer appropriately. If you throw the jacket over a thin shirt and don't do anything out in the cold... You won't be comfortable. Layer accordingly and this jacket will knock your socks off. The only reason I'm giving this jacket 4 stars and not 5 is that its about 90% wind proof. Which is still great but I guess I'm being nitpicky. Buy this jacket it's tremendous.
I recently picked up this jacket in Black, with a blue logo. It looks great, is super lightweight, fits very well (true to size) and somehow keeps you very warm. However, I have decided to return it, only because it wasnt what I was looking for. This jacket still deserves 5 stars. What I was looking for was a durrable winter jacket that could also be used in a northace shell for ski trips. This jacket is very stylish and trendy, whis is great, but not what I was going for. It keeps you very warm and litterally weighs nothing, but the durrability was a concern for me. Overall, awesome jacket to go out in durring cold nights and would highly recommend it to anyone not looking to layer it inside a shell.
"How does something so thin keep you so warm?"
We live on the Texas Gulf Coast (it's pretty warm here most of the time). However, we are taking a trip to Tennessee in January (it's cold there). Purchased a size small jacket for my 5.5ft 105lb son. The fit is great, even for his freakishly long arms. He and my wife were both skeptical that such a thin and light jacket would be warm. After wearing the jacket out in the 50 deg weather, the jacket had to come off, it was too hot. I'll report back after the trip to Tennessee where the expected temps will be 20s to 30s. Seems like it's going to be perfect.
