Rated 5 out of 5 by from My feet were in heaven. I love these socks. I didn't wash them the one night and the next morning I picked them up and they smelled like I just got them from the folks at moosejaw! I use em when I camp, keep my feet nice and warm. But here is the biggest reason I love them. Work. I work at UPS and in my steel toe boots my feet would always hurt. Regular grey work socks never cut it, they were too thin and always bunched up. But these cushion my feet and never bunch, they stay the same way from start to finish. And also, the sweat wicking is great for when I work those double shifts! Matter of fact, I've handled other people's moosejaw boxes while wearing these socks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These socks are bullet-proof, fire-retardant, and can ward off bad spirits. So when was the last time you've spent $20 on a pair of socks? Well, if you're broke like me then never. But I decided to take a leap of faith and invest in Smartwool's Trekking Heavy Crew Socks because I had just pulled the trigger on a nice pair of hiking boots. Right out of the box I could tell that these were more than just "socks". They're actually padded on the bottom and they're insulated on the interior. I coupled them with my hiking boots and they were great. I also wore them to go snowboarding in -10 degree wind-chill my feet were absolutely warm. I generally wear size 9 1/2 to 10 shoes. Large fits me just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best socks avilable period. I started with one pair. I'm an addict now. I've worn these from Equador to Alaska. The only socks I take into the outdoors. They are extremely comfortable, wick moisture away from your foot, are extremely well made and carefully designed. Extra padding where you most need and want it too. A little additional care to maintain the look of the sock pays. Wash inside out to prevent pilling. Line dry (recommended). Daily use and mountain desert and equatorial jungle trekking and backpacking. They wear extremely well too. I have not had to replace any of mine to date after several years of wear. Worth the extra price vs other types of socks. No wrong turns with smartwool socks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sometimes stealing your man's socks is better than stealing his sweatshirt! Okay, I'm a lady, and I love these socks - men's or no! I finally caved and bought myself a pair as the man was resorting to hiding his from me. Anywho, I'm a smartwool girl rain or shine (I own a hord of women's pairs too which are equally terrific) - these heavy trekking socks are perfect for a colder day when you anticipate lots of walking! They're also good for layering at night - when you're on a trek you always want to double or triple up on socks at night so your feet don't swell while out of your boots - these ones add to that by keeping in the warmth if your prone to frosty tootsies like me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never Judge a Book by its Cover--Or a Sock by its Outside! Gifted these to my husband. He says, "These aren't your Gpa's army issued wool socks! Such socks are to these like WWII iron bombs are to laser guided smart bombs; & these socks are smart! Extra cushy where needed w/ no cushioning where it's not. Outside looks & feels like a regular wool sock, but inside is a whole new ballpark. I like the merino so much I’m considering going merino for everyday socks. (If anyone knows when Bill Gates is adopting, let me know.) Of course these dry slower than their synthetic counterparts, but the benefits far outweigh this little inconvenience, in my opinion. So in conclusion: Smart Bombs, Bill Gates, SmartWool. P.S. No itch. No wooly smell." (I did good!)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you live in a cold place, why don't you have these? I bought these as just one part of my outfits to do battle with the harsh midwest winters in Chicago. I know it's colder some places, but if you haven't been, trust me, it's pretty chilly. I searched around a while and concluded that these were the socks I needed...and they were. They keep my feet so warm when I'm out, except for the few times my feet got wet. I don't blame the socks though, because your feet will get wet when you step into a puddle of slush with shoes with mesh on them, so that's bad on me. Wear these socks and don't wear meshy shoes. Your feet will thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very cushy and warm hiking socks I have always worn smartwool out in the field. I love their stuff. These socks are no exception. They are super cushioned, comfortable, and very warm. They are especially nice if your boots are a tad too big as they take up a little extra space compared to normal smart wool socks (Men's PhD Skiing Socks). However, it can be a burden if your boots are just the right fit. Overall, feels like a whole new pair of boots when I wear these socks and I'm thinking about springing for a few more pairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best heavy weight sock ever! I have used the Smartwool socks for some time but not the Heavy. I normally wear a thin wool liner with a mid weight outer. I have now changed my thinking and will continue to use just this heavy sock. I wore them out recently on a day of snowshoeing through 3 feet of fresh powder. I was wearing my mountaineering boots in these conditions and found my feet to be super comfortable and warm all day. Great cushion, super soft, very comfortable. I would highly recommend these.
